    Not in California you can't.
    The legislature was lobbied by the auto industry to put a stop to that, and the idiots in Sacramento went along with it.

    So you have to either go to a mechanic or buy a reader.

    they tried that here too, but it didn't fly, fortunately. but in truth, the auto zone readers aren't always helpful.
