How's the Entune update on Android?

Just wondering what Android users' experiences have been with the Entune update. My phone (Samsung Galaxy Light - Jelly Bean) keeps prompting me to update. I'd like to have Slacker radio, but - the app reviews on the Google Play store are almost universally terrible. With the current Entune version I don't have to start the app manually and it doesn't drain my battery noticeably; Google Play reviews of the update report these two problems frequently. Is it really that bad? Is Toyota likely to release a bug fix for it? Or is this a case of reviews being skewed toward the negative?

Thanks. Is it starting automatically in the background when you reboot the phone?

I didn't notice any difference with the update (I couldn't even get Slacker on the head unit), but then again I don't run Entune all that often either.

I believe it's always running in the background as long as you don't sign out of entunes.

Where is the entune update file that I can put on a flash drive?

I don't think you should need to use a flash drive. I think you just update Entune on your phone, and then if necessary the head unit will pull its update over the air through the phone. That's how I understood it, but I don't speak from experience: I'm still holding off on the upgrade since complaints continue to fill the Play Store reviews about battery problems and the update losing automatic launching functionality.

Well I'm confused about the update via phone.
Last week I did use a flashdrive to update from 3.1 to 3.2 (or maybe it was 3.0.1 to 3.0.2, can't remember from last week.). I should note that I do have the Entune app on my phone and I let the Play store do automatic updates to the apps so I imagine I had the latest Entune app update on the phone prior to doing the flash drive update. But I never open the Entune app to use it as I don't see any functionality from the app that I need other then the autoupdate to the car if that does indeed exist. Anyway I'm not sure how the car had taken the earlier updates from the original that it had when I bought it a couple years ago. Maybe the dealer was doing it or maybe Entune did it in the background without me knowing or even starting the Entune app. That's a mystery to be dealt with at some other time.

I've got the April 30th Android update now (Toyota issued a bug fix to the March version, and it seems to have pushed out without my giving permission.)

But I've got no Slacker radio - it shows up neither on the car nor the phone app. Called Toyota Entune support. Rep said that updating the phone's Entune should prompt the car's Entune to update. But she said my phone needs to run Android 5 or later in order to get Slacker. I can't find this documented online, but she seemed confident of it. Anybody else have the update on Android 4.x? Do you get Slacker or no?

BTW, Battery behavior for the 4/30 update seems fine, though it's true that at least on my phone it does not autostart in the background the way the old version did. I've solved this by installing the "LaunchAfterBoot" app and configuring it to launch Entune in the background when the phone boots.

I have Android 5.1 on my Nexus 5 with the latest Entune update on my phone with Entune 3.2.0 in my car and haven't seen Slacker yet.

Same here, no Slacker and no Yelp on my base model PIP - looks like you have to have the advanced model head unit.
I find the Entune app to be pretty much worthless.

I have Display Audio with Entune and Nav - which I *think* is supposed to get Slacker. I assume it's the same as the last model in this list?

"Slacker Radio is only available on the following Toyota multimedia systems: Entune Premium Audio, Entune Premium JBL® Audio, Premium HDD Navigation with Entune® App Suite, Premium IntelliTouch Navigation with Entune® App Suite and EV Applications, Display Navigation with Entune® App Suite."

Anyway, when I mentioned to the phone rep that I was unsure if I had the right model she seemed to keep honing in on the phone as the probable cause of the problem. So I wasn't sure if she knew for a fact I had the right model of head unit. (She didn't ask what I have, but they may have my VIN and audio system linked to my phone number, as Sirius XM does.)

I like Entune in general (Pandora, Bing, and the Nav, at least), and it was part of my decision to go with Package III vs. II. The idea/marketing point that it gets updates as time goes on is a good one - but I wish Toyota would support and document it a bit more solidly.

My car's head unit still seems to be running the same Entune, despite the updated version on the phone. So in addition to no Slacker, I can't get iHeartRadio to link to my user account (i.e. - I can't get custom iHeart stations, only the stations available for a given genre or broadcast locality.) I asked Toyota this week by email if there was something I needed to do to get the car to update Entune. They say that my car's head unit won't get the upgrade until "later this summer." A little confusing since the phone app has updated with, in my case, no practical effect for now. But hopefully the gods of head unit versions and Android versions will eventually align and I'll get the update eventually.

When you guys are saying that you don't have Slacker, from the main Apps screen that shows Pandora, Bing, etc... are you looking to the right for a blue arrow? That's where you'll find Slacker, on the second screen.

I think your trim level probably comes with one of the higher end audio systems that apparently got the update first. When I go to the second screen, there are some more apps there like OpenTable, but Slacker is not one of them.

BTW, I picked up a new phone with Android 5.0.2 this weekend, and when I installed Entune on it and logged into my account, Slacker doesn't show up there either. I'm guessing when I log into my Entune account that's linked to my VIN, so it knows my trim level doesn't have the update yet? That's assuming the guy at Entune tech support was correct when he said it would be available for my system "later this summer." It's all been rather mysterious since not much detail seems to be publicly documented.

Update in case others come across this thread: Finally got an email about a week and a half ago announcing the Entune update would be available for my car (2014 Prius III) on August 20th. (And not only that, Bing would be discontinued on that date, so I'd better do the update to get the new search option if I want to keep POI functionality.)

Did the update this afternoon via USB stick as directed by the email. Now have Slacker and my custom iHeartRadio stations, yay!

Will see how the update works out in practice, but it was good to finally get an email letting me know what was going on. I have a feeling Toyota didn't want to advertise that they were updating some trim levels six months ahead of others. But it would have been nice to know, to avoid confusion. I'd called and emailed Entune support several times trying to find out if it was an OTA update my car was somehow missing, and it was tough to get any clarity on the issue.

Problem started today. It was working fine for a few days since the 5.1 update.

I have a Samsung galaxy S4 with the latest software update.

When first turned on, bluetooth paring works find then it disconnects itself.

Phone shows paired but bluetooth connection is not detected by Prii.

Everything was working fine until the Entune Update to 5.1.

Anybody know of incompatibility issues with the prius bluetooth and the entune update 5.1? Never had this issue with the entune 2.1.

    Any help.is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hmm, strange that it worked for awhile, then stopped working. So far my Xperia Z1 Compact has been OK, but I only installed the update two days ago. On the old Entune (3.1 or 3.2), my Samsung Galaxy Light running Jellybean used to occasionally not be able to connect, at least for the internet services, and rebooting the phone would fix it. Does anything change for you when you reboot the phone?
If not, you might try deleting the pairing and then repairing to see if that helps.

I've done that twice. First time around, problem still exists.

Second time around its current working but I was only able to test it for a few minutes. The true test will be tommorrow on my 45 mile commute.
