If you have a gen 2 move the front seat forward, pull front and back headrests off and the seats will fold down flat. You have an 8 ft cargo bed. Leave the front seat all the way back and you can get 10 ft dimensional lumber down to the footwell and close it up.

I have a gen 3 and I know how to fold the seats back. I just didn't understand what you meant by "we need adjustable headrests." I'm interpreting your post as if we had adjustable head rests (which seat BTW?) it would enable folding front passenger flat without its headrest removal.

    No carbon footprint ?????
Where do you think the hydrogen is coming from ? Do you know the overall process efficiency ? So much waste of energy where EV get more than 85% of the energy produced. In a world with limited resources a FCEV doesn't make sense.

    Fool cells....

    From solar energy through photocatalyst.

These are not PV (photovoltiac) panels but PC panels.

You are partly correct. Here is the full picture (well to wheels).

The chart displays hydrocarbon to wheel very clearly.
Is there something similar available for sunlight to wheel comparing fuel cell to battery?

I'm talking about the rear outboard headrests. They only fold (so that you can clear the front seatback when you fold the rear seat).

Or use as "Lounge" mode where you sit in the back seat with your legs over the front seatback. I've done that on both the 2G and 3G Prius.

I think he misunderstood our statement. He has a Gen 2 which has rear headrests shaped like the letter "L" (see his attached photo) and what he means is that we need headrests that can retract (like in the photo) when the rear seats are folded. I don't think he realises that the 3rd Gen headrests can fold out of the way, even though they're larger than the 2nd Gen.

I don't know why Tank-to-Wheel is calculated in % efficiency, we have EPA consumption data don't we?
    - Mirai 66 mi/kg ~energy roughly the same as 66 MPG * 0.67 (Well-to-tank) = 44 MPG
    - Prius 50 MPG * 0.84 (Well-to-tank) = 42 MPG
    - EV 105 MPGe * 0.39 = 41 MPG

EV example on the chart is not really a real world example, as nowhere in the world electricity is produced only from natural gas and also latest gas turbines can achieve 57% efficiency. If you compare latest tech with latest tech then why would you take old type gas turbine generator?

Glad nobody measures my carbon footprint after I walk home from a Chipotle lunch.

That chart should have a second version where they project 10 yrs from now what the footprint would be.

We have a well known saying in Germany : "Wasch mich aber mach mich nicht nass ! "
IT means "wash me but don't get me wet" and that unfortunately is not possible!
No matter how environment friendly we produce cars or whatever, we will always hurt the environment in the process .
All we can do is choose the best alternative what ever that may be or we can simple go back to the stone age !

According to the patent, it could achieve 20% solar to hydrogen efficiency with 48% of sunlight absorbed by the panels. However, the article (came out later) said they have achieved 57% sunlight absorption. That means 24% solar to hydrogen efficiency. A typical PV panel is about 15% efficient. The best one produced is 21.5% (Sunpower X series).

A grid-tied PV system also need to take account of transmission loss when the sun isn't shinning. Hydrogen produced is stored locally at low pressure. You can use battery pack for PV system but there is charging loss and extra cost.

Vehicle efficiency is 85% for EV and 59% for FCV. If everything is considered, they both are about the same.
This is also a good way to see. I think they did it in % efficiency is because it shows how many percentage of the natural resource makes it to the wheels. Miles per gallon equivalent is another way to see as we are used to it.

    - Mirai is rated 67 MPGe so it came out to = 45 MPG
    - Gen4 Prius could be rated 57 or 60 MPG = 48 or 50 MPG

Thank you. Great explanation, the cheapest way to make hydrogen is to use methane or CH4. But, using the photocatalyst has got to much cleaner.

My outboard rear headrests are also removable and adjustable.

To remove them I have to simultaneously press 2 buttons for each headrest: 1 facing out at the base of the passenger side support and one facing in at the base of the driver side support.

I call them adjustable because although there are no notched detents at intermediate positions, there is sufficient friction for them to stay in place at any position part way up. Once they are fully up, they will flop forward unless I remove them.

Except that is not just what a hybrid car is, or do you call Mazda's iEloop regenerative brake ICE cars hybrids?
Hybrid cars, or HEVs, were termed such because they have two motive force generating systems; an ICE and electric one. FCEVs have just one. Regenerative braking is just a no brainer when you have an electric motor kooked up to the drive wheels and a storage device to capture the electricity. Diesel-electric locomotives are hybrids, but they don't have a battery to capture that energy. They just use resistors to throw the energy away as heat, and call it dynamic braking. They've been doing it since at least the 1960's.
Except the term has been more precisely defined for cars. Otherwise, bifuel cars could be labelled a hybrid. Chevy has a bifuel Impala and Silverado. They have just the ICE and two fuel tanks; one for gasoline, and one for CNG. They aren't hybrids in the technical sense. But they are more hybrid than a FCEV. They are fueled with two different fuels. A FCEV is fueled with one fuel, hydrogen, and has one drivetrain, an electric motor.
EPA size designations are based on interior volume. The Cruze is at the lower limit of midsize. The Volt missed the cut off by 2cu.ft. IIRC, and it was likely due to the space lost to the battery in the cabin, since it has more cargo room than the Cruze. The Cruze and gen3 Prius have the same cabin volume(the 2015 Corolla has nearly 10cu.ft. more), the Prius just has a lot more cargo space. Which can help rear passenger space in a hatchback or wagon. The Cruze hatch might equal the Prius, and the wagon might beat it. The US might get the hatch with the new Cruze.
And when was the last time you drove 600 miles without stopping at all?;) Besides the Volt starts out with 35+ grid miles everyday it is parked at home, so Volt owners tend to visit the gas station less often than Prius owners.
The issue with hydrogen tanks, because it's an issue with CNG ones, is degradation of the container, not how many fill cycles it can take. The tires on the wife's car had plenty of tread left after six years from the low miles. They didn't pass the safety inspection because they had visible oxidation cracking. Because of the pressures involved, the fact that it is a flammable gas, and that regular inspection won't catch all the potential weakening, CNG tanks have an end of service date. Even if the tank looks and tests fine, and expired one can't be legally used on road. The longest life ones last 25 years from date of manufacture. Hydrogen is more chemically active than natural gas, and the tanks are subject to much greater pressures; 10,000psi vs 3,600psi.
Besides the plug-in? I don't see Toyota bothering with an E85 fuel system and ECM. The Atkinson power stroke can get more energy out of the ethanol than the typical converted regular gas ICE, but they don't have the option on any of their other cars.
Volume figures are only part of the story. A narrow, but very tall car can have more passenger volume, but most people don't want to be sitting shoulder to shoulder with a foot of head space.;)
The Tesla has another 5cu.ft. of cargo space from the frunk.

Nope, storing is not enough. It has to provide propulsion power.

    SAE definition of a hybrid:

A vehicle with two or more energy storage systems both of which must provide propulsion power – either together or independently.”

I can't believe you are still confused. The definition is very clear.

It doesn't require two separate propulsion systems. Two energy storage systems must provide propulsion power. Therefore, fuel cell and battery both powering a single electric motor is a hybrid.

I really think the younger you are the more you'll like the looks of this car. It looks like they've styled it for the younger crowd.

i hope we'll be able to find out somehow, cause i don't see young people driving anything wild looking. usually, they have better taste than us oldsters.
