Android or Apple iOS better with Prius?

With Android, you can connect to Entune via Bluetooth. Not sure if you can do that with iOS.

 

Scangauge is not on the table? Big plus, at least I think: it's a dedicated component, always installed. It's pretty much designed for Prius, lots of additional XGauges available.

 

Yes, ScanGauge II. A little old-school I guess, but worth considering. Comes with cable that plugs into OBD2. There's a spreadsheet, linked here I think, with a ton of XGauges you can add.

Actually, the answer to the original question is "yes".

What do you want to do? Integrate with infotainment system or integrating with vehicle's parameter?

 

My wifes iPhone seems fine, I use a Nexus 7 tablet to monitor my Time and Mileage via TripLog It wakes up when the car powers the USB port and saves my mileage, time of day, and location. When the USB powers off, it records the Mileage (off a little), time of day, and Location of my destination. This greatly improves the accuracy of my record keeping, I can mark trips as Business, Personal, Medical, or Charity. at the end of each month you get email records of all the trips. There are paid versions for additional features. It should work on multiple platforms, I can recommend Android.

I use the ScanGauge II to program and monitor my Prius, you have about 100 gauges you can program in or use about 20 out of the box.
I use RPM, Water temp in F Air temp in F, and instantaneous MPG (allowing Ave MPG on the Prius screen).

I use Android simply because that's what we have in the way of phones and tablets. I went through the initial process of connecting my tablet (via BT) with my ODB2 device and playing around with the Torque app, but only because I already had them. I did change the backup beep to a single beep using the ELM 327 Terminal app, but that was it, none of the other sounds bother us. I gave up on Torque because I simply never paid attention to it after the initial playing around and haven't considered the $150+ ScanGaugeII (that needs to be connected via cable) for that reason. If you're considering this stuff, I suggest you look at the capabilities of each device and really consider what you want to track and why.

I also played around with Entune, but I find apps like Gas Buddy on my phone easier for us to use and I trust them more. I do like the BT interface for hands-free phone calls, but I haven't played with Bing (or whatever it uses now) because I use a Garmin Nuvi to find POIs, etc., as it doesn't use my data plan and includes map updates. Once I find something on the Nuvi, I either stop or use voice commands to enter the address for navigation. I could use the Nuvi, but I like the integrated audio the Prius nav provides. Between the Nuvi and phone, I don't plan on updating the Prius nav, at least not unless the cost comes down significantly. The Prius will always get me close and I can use the Nuvi or phone to get me the rest of the way if needed.

I am considering switching to an iPhone 6 Plus (or 6S Plus when they get released), but my understanding is they have to be connect via USB to do some things. I don't know that there is any significant difference in the apps for either OS.

I manually record trip displays and gallons/cost when I fill up with fuel and use an Excel spreadsheet to track our mileage. I started doing this when we bought the Prius and I'm not really sure why I still do it. I use Trip A for individual fill-ups, Trip B for entire trips and the Odometer for overall mileage computations. However, I can watch the CONS display and look at the trip displays to see if something might be amiss, so having the spreadsheet is just an exercise in "gee-whiz" for me at this point. I do like being able to compare mileage on repeated routes, etc., but knowing I got a given mileage one time and another a different time doesn't really do much in real life unless one has a commute and is striving to better their mileage. YMMV

 

I have a Iphone 6 and a Samsung S6 Edge. I can make calls and play music on both phones on my Prius but entune will only work on the S6 and doesn't work on the Iphone 6. I'm not sure why but entune worked on the Iphone 6 on my 2012 Prius C.

 

None of the three major OS's work better than the other in my opinion. There is some integration with iOS so that you can use Entune through USB and browse the music in the phone. Android is better with Entune because it can be connected untethered through Bluetooth. But there is no easy way to browse music on the phone itself. Windows Phone has no app whatsoever with Entune so you only Bluetooth. You also can't browse music on the phone. However, I found it more useful because Cortana reads my text messages to me as they come in. she also dictates text messages for me. Siri and Hey Google probably works too but they don't automatically ask me like Cortana does. Windows phone email also shows up in Entune while iOS and Android are not compatible. Ditto with phone contacts.
