I really want to buy a Prius, but I'm having trouble because I'm a loyal Honda owner and have a FANTASTIC mechanic who I don't want to leave, but he only works on Hondas.

I'm looking for an honest mechanic, one who treats me with respect even though I don't know little beyond where the gas goes and how to turn on the radio.

Any Oakland-area folks have recommendations they can rave about?

This is the sticking point for me, so help is needed.

    Thanks

Suggest you visit Art's Automotive in Berkeley and chat with them. I know them through their excellent web site, and a few email conversations. I like what I have seen.

I use Whitmore's Auto in Alameda.

The first time I went there, I had a motorcycle brake caliper that I had busted a bolt on. I brought the caliper in and asked if they could help with drilling the old bolt out. The guy spent about 1/2 hour trying to help me out and never charged me a dime (nor did he give me any crap about being stupid enough to bust the bolt in the first place ). The shop looks a little rinky-dink, but they are good people and I trust them.

I've brought my old Malibu to them several times and they were always up-front and honest about problems, solutions and costs.
