Side mouldings installation

    I am interested in side mouldings for my new Silver Pine Mica Prius.

    I do not feel confident installing the mouldings on my own. How much should I expect to pay to have the mouldings placed on the car? Should I contact the dealer or would it be best to check with one of the local auto body shops?

    ...or call your dealer and ask who they use, and call that installer directly to have it done. No need to use a middle man and have your car shuffled all over the place. This way you can speak directly to the guy doing the installation instead of hoping your dealer contact can relate your information correctly.

    I don't see anything in that post that responds to the cost of installation for the side mouldings.

    I paid $20.00 at a local body shop last year. I was afraid that I'd get it on crooked so it was a bargain to me.

    don't be afraid. it's ridiculously simple to do yourself. even easier if you have a helper.

    Body shop here (Woonsocket, RI) said a couple of hours & about $50-$60 to install.

    I called "The Plastic Surgeons" in Burr Ridge, Illinois for an estimate on the installation.

    They told me it would be $50 to install the side mouldings. They said they install a lot of them and would install them while I wait---approximately 15 minutes!

    I was anxious too but ended up doing it myself. It is not hard at all. I used a wax pencil, sturdy tape measure, and the blue painter's tape (didn't leave glue residue as the masking tape did). I measured up the prescribed inches on the front and back doors and marked the measurements with a wax pencil. I then taped the end of the tape measure on the edge of the back door, stretched it out along the two marks I had made, then went back with the wax pencil along the tape measure making dashes for my straight line. I used those marks to lay down the blue tape, then followed the instructions that came with the side-molding. the molding is stiff enough that any wave in the tape was obviously inconsequential.

    Once my tape measure retracted and left a small scratch that buffed out. If I had wrapped the end in tape even that would not have been a problem.

    It's easy.
