What is the most comfortable, quietest tires on a Prius?

I don't care much about fuel efficiency.

My Bridgeston EP20 is 26000 miles now. It is noisy as always. I am looking at Premier A/S as a top one for now, since it has good traction and quiet. ;)

You might look at Conti TrueContacts (see TireRack.com) which is what I have now, also Goodyear Assurance ComforTred I used before but they seemed to get noisy with time. The Michelin is presumably very good.

I'd probably go Michelins as they're usually OE equipment on fancy cars

If noise is what you're looking to eliminate, how about sound proofing car?

Didn't do Gen3, but applying Peel&Seal on other cars (including Prius C) made considerable difference. Even just doing doors will help alot.

Michelin Premiers, but you will take a big hit on mpgs. I'm down to about 40 mpg if it's just short city trips. Highway miles are better depending on the load.

If keeping the same size tire, I highly doubt you'll be taking any detectable hits using a quality tire such as Michelin or any brand for that matter. I still think driving style trumps all variables given the same car (when comparing). Heck, I'm on non-LRR 17" tires and I'm still getting 50+mpg. Yesterday's commute, short city trip--about 10 miles--yielded 57.1mpg. On 17" non-LRR tires! I also did a 200 mile round trip with passengers, AC on the whole time with some heavy traffic and got 49.9mpg. My numbers are very similar, if not the same or better, than my stock factory 15s on LRR tires. Not to say you won't take a hit, after all, I now have 40mm more of tire on the road. But it's not really detectable in my opinion. Just pick a tire and enjoy =)

    Which tires are those?

Our's came with Michelin Pilot HX MXM4, they seem to roll very easy and it's not hard to achieve a 50 mpg tank. Our fuelly icon doesn't fully reflect this: for the first few years our 2010 was driven mostly by my wife, a fair number of short trips daily, and she's not as nuts as me regarding mpg. :)

I got them cause they had a great deal and rebate. The description reads they incorporate a special formula to reduce rolling resistance but they aren't classified as LRR tires. Either way, I like them so far

I don't mind much about MPG. I just hope the Michelin Premier A/S is as quiet as Yokohama Avid S33d

weird, the OEM Ecopias were one of the quietest tires i used and continued to be so till worn at 40,000 miles. The purecontacts i use now are much more noisy from new. and i took a huge mpg hit. i'm kicking myself for not buying the 422 Ecopias.

It is quiet on smooth asphalt roads. Not so much on rougher roads, compared to Yokohama Avid S33d

The varied experience makes you wonder if there's different tire factories, quality control, whatever, at play.

My car had Bridgestone B250 tires, it was extremely noisy above 60KM/h. Especially brick roads, of which we have quite a lot here, were drilling sound into my ears. I've bought Michelin Crossclimate tires 1600KMs ago, the decrease in tire noise is very, very noticeable. It's too early to say anything meaningful about MPG , but I don't see much difference. What I did notice is how the car glides more easily now.

Long story short, Michelin CC is very quite.

Boy, does that take me back. Mijn moeder was Dutch, first went back with her when I was 3, and yes, a lot of cobblestones. Another thing I recall: these rattan covered chairs on the (windy) beaches. That was maybe 1954. :)

The Bridgestone Ecopia's I just got on my car are the loudest tires I've ever had on a car. The noise on the highway is almost deafening. Drives me nuts.

    2 possibilities:

    1. bad alignment and you cupped the tires.
    2. you got used tires from a car with bad alignment.

Mine came with EP20's. I'll swap to Conti TrueContact when it's time. They are the highest rated tire in OEM size and score 9.2 for noise compared to 7.6 for the EP20's.

they "score" based on a subjective tirerack customer rating. too many problems with that "scoring" to list.

Yes, it's subjective but it's a point of comparison. One might be able to research European tire resources where I believe they do testing and supply actual db ratings on tires.
