I have a 2011 -- I was driving on freeway and pulled off due to traffic. It was a good thing I exited the freeway because not more than 5-minutes later the car completely died. I was at a stop light in front of a busy shopping center, the car beeped and lost all power. The message said, "Check Hybrid System." I was barely able to coast across the intersection and park on the side of the road. Super dangerous and I had my daughter in the back. I am truly disappointed by Toyota. This is not an acceptable for a car that is fairly new -- purchased towards the end of 2011. If I hadn't gotten off the freeway, it could have been worse. The dealership said, the issue is covered by warranty. We better not be charged for additional labor or work. This is obviously a defect in the vehicles design as others have experienced it. NOT OKAY AT ALL!!!!....

Major bummer. Glad there was no accident. Be sure to keep the pressure on... they should fix it entirely.

At 47,444 miles, my 2010 Prius stopped cold with the message, Check Hybrid System. I've been lucky and have NO problems with it the past 5 years (I don't drive it long distances). I'll call the dealer in the morning. I'm hoping that my extended warranty for "Drive Train" repairs will cover it with a $50 deductible.

the good news is the failures are happening under warranty. can you imagine the hassle of this happening after warranty expires?
BTW, did the car have the inverted recall done when it failed?

Everyone who had issues with ecu and inverter, would you mind elaborating driving habits so we can relate it to something. For me i drive on highway about 95% of time since i drive 200 miles everyday on highway. i dont push hard on paddle try to keep bar below the orange power section accelerating moderately. AC always on since in louisiana its always hot. No hard breaking. No frequent car washes to keep engine bay and other parts off of water.
If people who experienced issues chime in with factors may have lead to causing issue we can narrow it down may be.
