When is the release date for the Gen4? Some Stealerships are saying Nov to Next April? Probably trying to unload the gen 3 at regualar prices is what I suspect

Careful who you talk to at dealerships for arrival date: In mid August, a salesman at Fremont Honda insisted the 2016 Accord was to arrive in December (it got a midcycle refresh)
They started coming in before Labor Day, first weekend in September.

G4 Prius starts production late November. I don't see why it wouldn't hit CA by January.

Perhaps the BIG A## styling feature is in Toyota's design corral now. If so, count me out. I do not find this attractive in a vehicle at all. Noticed it when the Highlander came out...was following one and could not believe my eyes. Then RAV4 and Sienna.
The Camry has had that squared-off rear end since its latest refresh too.
And now. continues bigtime in the Prius line.

Please Toyota, enough already. Personally I find this styling touch ugly to the extreme. Add that to the huge front grill on most Toyota/Lexus cars - and now the nutty interior designs...ouch.

This is the car that I was hoping to see unveiled.

A two door hatchback EV sports car!

Some of the ugliest taillights ever. When I first saw them on the Highlander and 4Runner, I had wondered if this was the result of some bewildering regulation. But I didn't see any other car make going out of their way to redefine fugly. Then the front grills caught my attention, and it's really, really hard not to notice them. They look toyish, which is an appropriate term. The Camry and Avalon look pretty decent, but the trend in family styling themes has taken a bad turn for the utterly absurd in other models. In 2015, designers can pretty much do anything they want to with sheetmetal. Hard to believe this is what they chose.

I'm not thrilled with the styling either and I guess we all like different things but I just looked at the grilles on the Camry and the Avalon. It seemed to me that the Avalon grill looked like a Guppy and the Camry grill was possibly a new low point for the model.

agreed. i think we are fortunate that the gen IV escaped with it's face intact. most toy grilles are horrible imo.

The Camry tends to look better in darker colors. The Avalon seems to have the right blend of shape and size. IMO, what they should have done is to scale the enormous front grill to the size of the car, the Corolla looks downright frightful in some colors. Now this is assuming there is an actual benefit/need for a grill that stupid in the first place. The Ford Fusion did a nice scale of the oval grill.

At any rate, form/function/style don't need to be fighting one another. I realize some have gotten to the point where they don't even list styling on their top ten. But to attract customers, it does help to have nice designs. Perhaps everybody's graduating from the Fugly Design University online today.

Interesting that the Gen IV is not bad in the front end. But look what the hooligans did to the rear end while the front end guys went home for the weekend;)

This is a really dumb post.

"Short and wide" may not mean "fast and nimble" for humans, but it does for cars.[IMG]

Funny you mentioned toyish... because it reminds me of the interior on who approved the "white plastics" near the gear controls which is toyish too.... ummm like the plastics they used on the economy flip phones.

The white thing is likely a societal / cultural thing. Toyota claims it's representative of "fine bone china", which is not something you'll find in the average US home. But perhaps in Japan...

On the heels of my commentary re Toyota (and Lexus) designs - I happened upon the new 2016 Lexus RX. Once again I needed to wipe my eyes. The Audi front ends grew on me over the years. The Lexus/some Toyotas are like flesh-eating organisms - no way....

Besides the crazy-odd huge shapes - just imagine the repair costs for very minor bumps to that grill!

From the pics, Lexus did the rear a favor by a sensible design (if not > too bland...). I know design etc is in the eyes of the beholder, but Jeez....

We had a 2000 RX and LOVED that vehicle. I see us migrating out of the Toyota/Lexus camp - the only vehicle I would consider is the Avalon, albeit too large for our current needs.

Funny, I never use ANY of the following: ECO, PWR, and P (park). Yeah well, maybe once a year I use Park, but almost invariably I just shut the car down, which does Park.

What I DO use, a lot, is the Mode button on the heating/ventilating row of button. Typically I'm looking to set it to heat/defog mode, on a rainy night, on a twisty road. And of course it's a flush, nondescript button, in the middle of a row of like buttons, and you have to push it multiple times, while looking away from the road, to get to the LCD icon of your choice. And if you go to fast you zip by the one you want, get do cycle through them again.
