    It's a little long for a commercial.

    Interesting. BUT...

What's really left out, is that Volt to Prius or Prius to Volt isn't a 100% apples to apples comparison.

I may be in the minority. But for me, Prius was about the ONLY choice, as I rent and do not have access to a place where I could conveniently charge. So a standard Prius that requires NO outlet charging was actually the better choice.

And as far as outdated battery technology? Batteries are non-moving, chemistry based components. I'm all for improvements in capacity, charge capability etc...

But as far as Prius goes? Whatever works, works. I'm very Machiavellian in this regard. The ends justify the means. Lithium Ion may eventually totally replace Nickel Metal Hydride. But at this point those are the 2 types of batteries used. The Volt isn't using some reversed engineered UFO technology here. The Plug In Prius, which is a more precise comparison, uses Lithium Ion as well.

But perhaps I'm the wrong person to give a comment. As I still listen to CD's, and I have a flip phone cell. -No not with an antennae.

Toyota recently proclaimed the Next Gen Prius would change everything we think we know about Hybrids.
Then in Vegas they immediately told us nearly nothing about this new hybrid.
Hard to change what you think...when you don't know what to think.

In a battle of evolution, Toyota has the advantage of history and staying power.
Chevy can proclaim to be "newer".

The automaker I think that has the greatest claim to building towards the future is actually IMO Tesla.

We'll just have to wait & see as neither car is going to be available in the immediate future.

Should we write our own 'whack a mole' commercial?

No I don't think so. The <insert_other> advocates have been persistent but not terribly effective. Those who wanted to switch did, years ago. I don't see this commercial being effective.

This video is targeting younger adults that have not crossed over yet...and will likely impact it's target audience. Especially when Toyota plays commercials like this during a Superbowl....

I think there were good elements in both internet ads, but both really failed. Chevy has admeitted to not knowing how to sell this vehicle, and these show it still has no idea.

Ad 1) Range anxiety. This is something that the volt needs to overcome, but instead of showing full bev normally, and efficient after. This won't cut that. If the leaf had big market share it might be a good volt versus leaf commercial, but the target needs to be hey this is a great efficient bev, that switches to hybrid. Leaf sales are tiny. GM has the spark and is working on the bolt. It should be working to say the volt doesn't ahve range anxiety, but its not real for most plug-ins to expand the market. This is awful.

Ad 2) New tech. Pretty cool concept, awful target and execution. The volts initial adopter apeal is not that it uses lithium and the prius uses nimh. Its that you don't have to go to the gas station. Its that it has regen braking (like the prius), its that its got a cool big modern interior, but still nice tactile buttone where they are needed. Lots of stuff for initial adopters in the car. Really dumb targeting the prius.

Great job on the volt power train and interior. Really bad job on identifying what it takes to sell the thing. GM like Toyota needs to fire their ad agency. Next bad commercial ....

Now they could make fun of that one, as old dirty technology, and talk about the silence of electric versus dirty dirty diesel. That would be timely and funny.

Well when your number 1! You are always targeted! But it's true the Prius is old tech, and it's hard to beat! In city traffic our 2014 volt get way better mpg vs our 2015 Prius, when the volts battery is depleted! I would have waited to buy the new gen 2 volt but I needed the Prius cargo room!

We're getting misleading advertisements now. That's not an encouraging sign. From the one titled: "Chevy Volt Battery Technology: Time Capsule", here's a quote:

"This is the 2016 Chevy Volt. It uses state-of-the-art battery technology. The Prius uses battery technology developed 15 years ago."

The lithium-ion battery, which is what Volt uses, was commercially released back in 1991. That's 24 years ago.

First you explain that "new" equals "improved", "better". Then you can make an end run around reality, do whatever you like, lol.

Chevy is making a bad case for the Volt. It already is having difficulty manufacturing them. Much of the US will have to wait for the 2017 models. This doesn't bode well for their reliability.

Some of the manufacturers should take note of a commercial like this.

The amazing part is that he made the ad because he likes Teslas.

The Chevy Volt is an Electric Car with 5 minute refill (for your long roadtrips)

That's all they really need to say. It sums-up the car succinctly: It runs on electricity, which is clean & inexpensive, but it can be refilled in 5 minutes at the local gas station, so you're never limited in how far you explore
