I know this will piss some folks off on here, I believe in the right to bear arms, back when Paul Revere was around. But today, I think majority of gun totters in this country are insecure.
When you really compare stats to progressive country's where guns are not bought , like here, the crime is way down.
Let's get that grill fired up now, I do like me some good kale( honestly I do)

all ignorance aside (mine), there is one thing we can agree on, the importance on using less oil, so let's celebrate that

Speaking of choking down kale - I take the kale and spinach, and a dozen other veggies, and run them thru my juicer. Takes me about an hour, and I do this twice a week. By the time I mix in my apples, protein powder and some fresh blueberries, etc, it tastes pretty dang good! No forcing it down for me! Even got my 8 year old son drinking it this way. Healthy doesn't have to be yucky or difficult. I find if a person keeps leaning one way, they tend to end up that way, in a pretty painless manner. I did have to choke down my first few rounds, till I got my recipe figured out, I just really wanted this, and kept leaning!

Heading out, time to sidle up to a bar and get surly.

There is a group of books out there , call eat your blood type, or something like that.
Think you can buy a individual small book for your blood type .
I really don't see meat for the masses, but if it is your blood type or its eating because of your ancestors, I say go for it, but it will kill most
Have a good night, got to sleep.

if you don't like kale, you haven't prepared it correctly. first you need freshly grown baby kale. then find a nice salad recipe and just a bit of vinegar and oil.

Add some flavored vinegar to the kale. Or maybe some Braggs Liquid Aminos. Just lightly steam the kale, or pan fry with minimal water. Esselstyn doesn't allow any isolated oils, not even olive oil blessed by the Pope.

My dog was watching me eat a plate full of kale yesterday. He begs everything, but I doubted that he'd actually eat some kale. So he got the last bite (soaking in balsamic vinegar). He'd seen me put it in my face, so it must be food... He took a lick, and looked funny at me. Like "you actually ate this stuff?". I egged him on, and he gulped it down. Didn't lick the vinegar left on the plate, but he did eat the kale.

This dog gets organic raw hamburger regularly. Works for him. Something about really strong stomach acid, a short GI tract, and a shorter lifespan.

Dr. Esselstyn's study used diet only. There are many other studies where diet is mixed in with exercise, stress management, drugs, supplements, etc. I'm sure those other aspects are important, but the Esselstyn diet worked. Another thing that amazes me is that this was done in middle America at the Cleveland Clinic. The center of "meat & potatoes" culture. And Rip Esselstyn got his fame for converting Texas firefighters to a vegan diet. Not your usual nuts & twigs hippie...

Some, perhaps most, of the the patients had had at least one bypass operation. Several had blockages in places where bypass/stents could not be used. And probably a few who refused surgery. They were all seriously unhealthy, hopeless by conventional cardiology standards.

The treatment consisted of weekly half hour sessions with Dr. Esselstyn where they reviewed every morsel of food eaten during the previous week. This was not a diet on a piece of paper that the patient was supposed to figure out for himself. Compliance was mandatory and verified - if they couldn't/wouldn't follow the diet, they were referred back to their original cardiologist for conventional treatment (which had already proved inadequate).

Dr. Esselstyn's current efforts are mostly educational. The intensive management phase proved that the diet would work if it were actually followed. Now you're on your own deciding if it's what you want to do. He's 82 years old, and an example of what his lifestyle can deliver.

A "hearty" meat diet is a modern concept not something the cave man did. Getting meat for every meal for a large group of people (tribe) requires massive amounts of energy and time. Biologist/anthropologist tell us conservation of energy is imperative for long term survival. Running down a deer to death isn't something you want to do for breakfast! No, the caveman spent more time gathering easy food sources like plants and nuts. Folks who don't want to give up meat but want to eat more like a caveman follow the paleo diet philosophy.

Our biology/genetic makeup is for a plant based diet. Any basic nutritional book can show you WHY the modern diet, based heavily on too much meat and processed (non)foods loaded with sugars and salts, damages the body on the cellular level. These books will also explain why the body begins to crave high fat, sugary and salty foods and how it becomes an endless cycle.

Rates for CHD, strokes, diabetes and cancer, all of which have been linked to diet (or strongly influenced by it), are still going up in the US. Recently a 75lb 3 year old was diagnosed with diabetes setting the record for youngest ever! <insert proud chants of "USA, USA, USA" here> The doctor has gotten it back under control by educating his parents (both obese) about the importance of diet.

Coming back full circle to the OP about a "scarry" burger, the artificial coloring dye is just one more chemical added to the mix; no extra charge. (y)

On the subject of kale, we eat it nearly everyday in salads or juices. We buy the large spinach/kale mixed bags.

Finally, I think this thread has stayed on subject remarkably well: that of what goes in our bodies affects us and what comes out. Thankfully we haven't dwelled on the out part of the equation! :p

Well said fotomoto. I'd also like to throw something else into the mix for all you following this thread. Since we Prius owners are 'green', at least more so than most, perhaps another angle to approach eating plants (at least mostly plants) is that it's good for the planet. A hamburger takes something like 600 gallons of water (or some crazy number, don't quote me on that exact number) because of all the grain the cow needs to eat, drink, etc. The recent flick 'Cowspiracy' is a real eye opener, highly recommend. Agriculture is doing more harm to earth than all the cars/trucks/planes fumes combined. Like WAY more. Check it!

I mean, let's all go drive around in Hummers, but stop eating meat already! :p
