I have the built in NAV and I also own a TOM TOM (for out of town car rentals). The TOM TOM puts the Garmin to shame!!!!!! Get it and you won't regret it!! I used it today in the Prius just to demo it to someone and it does not interfere with anything.

 

I have a Tom Tom 700 which I use with 04 Prius. There is no interference with any Prius functionality and the Tom Tom Bluetooth connection with my Razr works perfectly as well.

I bought my wife the 700.......remarkable!.....Best of all is how user friendly it is!
Now I understand they've come out with a 900 or 910.....with lots of new bells and whistles!

 

Of all the third-party GPS systems people use in the Prius, none have said anything about having a problem with interference.

It depends on what you want. Some models have XM (or Sirius) which will display traffic conditions (of selected cities) right on the screen. It costs extra, but if you need that, hey.

The biggest problem I've had with my Go is the screen is very hard to see in direct light.
I have a GlareStomper: http://www.glarestomper.com/; and it helps quite a bit.

If you are buying a new Tomtom, you should really look at the 510 and 910.

 

I bought the Garmin C340 for my wife's car and she loves it. Extremely easy to use. Best features: states the names of the streets during directions ("Turn left on Fort Hunt Road" instead of "Turn left in 50 ft") and easliy allows user to add other destinations during a trip. The wife likes Starbucks This unit is way better than the nav in my '05 Prius and I really like the nav in my car.

 

Just curious: do any of these units have an external video output?

Take a very close look at any GPS you buy. I use TOMTOM software in my Treo and it has one "feature" that drives me crazy....

The map display is always in the direction of travel. While this works great in 3d view, it drives me crazy is 2d/birdseye/normal map view. I really prefer to always have NORTH as up. Also, TOMTOM will always bring the zoom level back to it's speed sensitive setting instead of a confirgration to leave it at the zoom level set by the user.

The TOMTOM all in one units operate the same way.

The Garmin and Lowrance units give you the choice. I also find the navtec maps in the Garmin to be more accurate than the maps used by TOMTOM.

I prefer the Garmin StreetPilot c330/c320/i5 and the new Nuvi 350 and 360. Choose the one you can afford and like the best whether it is TOMTOM or Garmin.

The Garmin i5 uses AA batteries, but has a small screen and no touch screen. It's size is nearly perfect to sit next to the MFD.

I have a TOM TOM 910 and have not had any problems. But I am thinking about buying the TomTom FM Transmitter Mount. I was wondering if anyone is using the transmitter with their Prius and would like their opinion of the transmitter.
