That title is misleading. It is a trail run between public and private companies (Toyota included). It was posted on Toyota Newsroom.

It looks like the battery storage is used because the trail run electrolyzers are not sized to consume maximum excess wind electricity.

Or the batteries could be buffer used even in a commercial operation. The electrolyzers and the compressors may work better at a steady rate not provided by waiting on excess wind.

Yup, agree. We'll have to see how well that turns out. It isn't set in stone.

    Note
Changes to the trial's plan and content may occur as a result of ongoing discussions between the project partners and the Ministry of the Environment.

I think it's ridiculous that hydrogen comes from a fossil fuel, and it costs $20/gallon (source: station engineer). Yes it's true that EVs are recharged with fossil fuels but 30% of that mix is clean hydro, wind, and solar power. A hydrogen car can never use those clean sources.

The hydrogen network doesn't exist. Even in tree-hugging California I often cannot find a station, or if I do, it's broke. It will cost trillions to install the stations around the world. In contrast the electric grid is prolific and ready for EV adoption & convenient at-home charging.

I am also against lying corporations.
When companies like Mercedes, Hyundai, and Toyota say "Only 5 minutes to refuel" and I have personally seen FCV drivers take 20 minutes...... well that's BS. The drivers are not happy about the obvious deception

The FCV Plus will have similar abilities as the Mirai but offer one major benefit: the ability to use its wireless charging capability to share power with surrounding vehicles, effectively creating a social sharing program where drivers can assist others on the road. By generating electricity from hydrogen that’s stored in its tank, the FCV Plus will be able to fuel vehicles and also add power to building grids if needed.
Mirai has a plug out option but with wire. This is with wireless.

If it can "assist others on the road", that implies that it and the other cars are a plug in to some degree.

No its about back up power, not about powering plug-ins or other "$$ev" type cars with batteries and motors.

What if you could have a mobile generator? Oh yeah we have that but this is a cleaner quiter mobil generator than a honda generator on a cart, or a prius phv or outlander phev with power out.

With hook it up and generate, perhaps this is a better concept for a natural gas fuel cell vehicle.

Then again why would this drive a plug-in advocate crazy. It just looks like a gimmick, but it may be popular compared to back up generators in Japan if the government gives each one a 3 million yen subsidy.

On the *road*, who needs electricity?

I have a Prius (regular) with power out. I use it to power my house when the grid is down. It is quiet, and as clean as Prius. If I had a Tesla, it would be cleaner and quieter.

I'm just repeating from the new story.

Lots of people need electricity on the road, but they normally make on their trucks and don't get if from another vehicle. On the road, really should have said mobil, as you can move it around, like your prius, or a generator on a a trailer. Those generators on trailers are what I typically rent if I don't have a big truck with space in the bed, and need electricity. Last time it was tok keep a refrigeration unit going ;-)
