You're not the first to call me paranoid, but with regards to computers and having dealt with a rootkit infection, along with both my wife and my credit cards being fraudulently charged recently, I can't be too certain, especially about not exactly legitimate copies of Techstream software.

No... I think you're confusing the Techstream software with the J2534 standards interface hardware driver.
They are two very different products and manufactures.

The flyer actually states the Techstream program supports both win7 and win8:
    win7 32 or 64 bit - Version 4.21 and above
    win8 32 or 64 bit - Version 8.0 and above

The note about Win8 applies only to the more expensive MongoosePro MFC VIM opton.

As I mentioned in the #7 post above... there are other less expensive VIM options ($25 for the Xhorse cloan and $170 for the Tactrix open port 2 - Both work with XP as well as win7 and win8).

Yeah understand about the bootlegs. And I'm just doing some rhetorical ranting, regarding how we spend over 25 grand, and then have to meet someone in an alley for our software with virus.

Please accept my apologies... I wasn't referring to you specifically nor the Techstream source.

I was clarifying that Techstream does indeed work with win7/8. That the problems people have reported is not about the program but in fact the interface hardware driver. My point is that the fix is a simple text file and clearly not a virus issue.

Many people are concerned about virus and malware issues... that's why I posted the link to the Total Virus online scanner. You can test the file without even downloading the file to your computer. Sites like this give you the power to do a double check (or in this case a 57x check).

Virus software companies have their own agenda but it seems they intentionally make people paranoid when they flag entire file types as bad just because of the file extension or associated compression technology. Any attachment you happen to encounter (emails, pictures videos, programs etc.) can contain malware. However many virus.malware concerns come from emails and visiting sites that exploit holes in the web browser software.

The point was to help you and others understand the actual problem and make an informed decision about the options. In this case its very clear the driver fix is 100% safe.

I think Engine Link is the equivalent of Torque. In fact it uses the same PID's as Torque with the columns re- arranged. I used vincent1449p's Torque .csv file for the Gen 3 and converted the columns to fit Engine Link and everything worked.

There are separate apps for the iPad and for the iPod/iPhone but they are only $6.99 each so I have both. You can use the iPhone version on iPad but you only get the iPhone size. I like the full size iPad screen for viewing ease. This allows for more PID's on a single screen.

I just bought a cheap Chinese knock-off Elm 327 WiFi-OBDII device on eBay and it has worked flawlessly with no problems.

I have often wondered why if you mention a knock off copy of the Nav DVD on here you get lectured about piracy against Toyota. But you can discuss the mini-VCI knock off of Techstream until the cows come home . Go figure!

Of course I just joined the ranks and ordered a copy of mini-VCI . The Toyota TIS was just too rich for my simple needs!

You can get the $55 subscription to TIS and download the software for use with the clones, minus some functionality.

Can you post the item number... there are tons of options on ebay.

Does it shutdown when you turn the key off?
Does it have an on/off button?
Do you leave it plugged in all the time?

Sorry I bought it over 2 years ago on Amazon. Any of the ELM327 WiFi - OBDII for iPhone or iPad should work.
It does shut down when you turn the key off since it draws power from the OBDII socket.
No on/off button - see above
I have left it plugged in for short periods of time. My SGII stays plugged in most of the time.
I use Engine Link when I want to look at more than 4 PID's at one time, like battery module voltages, temps, etc.

I've been using the free Torque lite app for the past month. Can someone confirm that this app is capable of displaying logged error codes for the Prius - no pending codes were found for my Prius, but I am now worried that for some reason Torque lite is not capable of reading Prius error codes? I don't mind purchasing the full version of Torque, although all I want is the ability to review logged error codes. Well, if there is an easy way for me to check hybrid battery health, that would be desirable? Does Torque pro offer this feature? The custom PID route referenced above seems overly complex for me, but I may give this a shot at a later date.

Torque lite won't cut it. You need custom PIDs so its Torque pro for you. This allows you to read most ecu codes and those related to the battery. To read all the car's computers you need a Mini VCI cable, Toyota techstream software, and an old Windows 95 laptop. You can get a clone cable with pirated software on eBay cheap. Expect malware and driver problems. You can go fully legit and pay a site license fee from Toyota, but that's expensive.

You can use Torque Lite to read and clear the DTC codes... it works fine. I used the light version to read and clear codes for quite a while and was very happy with the results... but once I tried Pro I was even more impressed.

I'm not sure what you mean when you state "an easy way for me to check hybrid battery health"?
When and if the battery has a problem it will generate a code and Torque light or Pro will read the code.

If you want to read the individual battery blocks on the HV battery you will need the pro version. Once you have the pro version you can monitor a bunch of sensors relevant to the Hybrid subsystem.

Just to confirm... Torque lite will read and clear codes without me downloading any custom PIDs? What about Torque Pro - will Torque pro read the individual battery blocks without the custom PIDs? Thanks
