It's a 2012 and I was hit today at low speed in a parking lot by a suv. There is exposed styrofoam and bent metal in a small section in the front. Anyone have a ballpark estimate?

On our 2012 we were quoted $249 for the bumper itself and $300 for paint and me doing the install

For DIY it will cost $312 bumper painted to match from ebay. If you go insurance route or body shop then you maybe looking at around $800 to $1000.

So does that include the bent piece of metal and Styrofoam behind the bumper cover? The other driver was at fault and has insurance. He did ask that I get an estimate before going the insurance route.

Searching on my phone for your title, I see this is a very common problem. Back in the eighties and earlier, not so much. Saw this in a parking lot lately:

no that was just for bumper. I believe the styrofoam is around $70 and metal reinforcement bar is also around same price unless there is more damage than just the reinforcement bar.

$3000 to replace the bumper and one DRL when I ran into a box on the freeway. My damage was similar to yours but centered at the LED which cracked. The quotes other people are posting seem low to me or the repair place I was recommended ripped off my insurance company (I just paid the deductible).

I think they ripped off is more true since my damage is estimated at around $1500 and it covrs engine undershield and fender liner. Just shop around and get estimates at more than one places.

Yup, they told me they replaced those two items as well when they saw my eyes bulged. Oh well, my insurance company recommended them and I didn't really care.

I had mostly cosmetic damage to the front bumper, far less worse than pictured.
It depends on what route you're going in repair.

A full body shop removal and refinishing is going to be costly.

Very little really had to be done to mine, and it ended up being around $1000.

You pay for labor, removal, repainting...

The surprising charge on mine, was that evidently when the bumper was removed the rubber strip between where the top of the bumper assembly meets the hoodline had to be replaced.

According to my bodyshop the rubber cannot be carefully removed and reused.

But anyway....my experience has been nearly ANY damage to the bumper, and it results in about $1000 assuming you are going the full bodyshop, looks as good as new repair route.

You could probably find cheaper answers if you do want to search for bumpers yourself, and go that route.

Thanks for the replies. So far my first estimate gave me a $1200 cost. This was from sending pictures to the local shop so it could go up.

If the insurance company pays don't they have to designate which shop to use? I would like to do it at the dealership but I would think they would look for a cheaper option.

Dealership bodyshop is not necessarily expensive, my dealership quoted me less than insurance company`s suggested bodyshop

The insurance company can only recommend a shop. They can't require you to use any shop.

At least in Oregon it's exactly the opposite. The Insurance Companies can't force you to use their shops...your choice.

If it was me? I wouldn't necessarily default to the idea that the dealership bodyshop is best. I'd start looking for reviews and rankings on the internet.
However, I suggest critical caution. As what I found was that often people will give positive reviews to a bodyshop for reasons that have nothing to do with the quality of work, such as " I love this shop because "Don" the estimator, was so friendly and he gave me a free cup of coffee while waiting.". So try to look for reviews about the actual quality of work.

    Good Luck.

IMO the body shops of two of my local Toyota dealers did excellent work. If the dealer has a Prius in the rental fleet schedule the body work to accommodate the rental's availability.

We first used a body shop on the recommendation of our Honda dealership. Maybe 25 years later, were still using him. I believe they've improved over the years, we trust them.

Have the shop lift the car up and do a frame measurement check. Unnecessary as it might sound but something might be moved without you knowing until you go get a wheel alignment and it's never in specs. Make sure the shop use a computerize system and can print out the report.

Just think how much force it takes to bend that support bar and the force to move your car in order for you to feel it.

$1,200 is a fair price. Just make sure the support bar is replace too with a new Toyota OEM part and that you get to see the old damage one after the repaired. If the insurance bs and say it's not necessary. Then you tell them that is a safety issue and you are uncomfortable. Say no to recondition or used parts because it's a safety device.

Also demand all new parts. No recondition or used. You have the right to because it's still a relatively new car. When the repairs are done make sure to pick it up in the day time. Have the shop takes it out in the sun. Its the best place to see if color match is right on or close enough to your sastisfaction. Also look if the orange peel match. If not they need to repaint it. You have the right to. Their job is to repaired the to precolision condition. Also make sure the body panels gap are evenly spaced.

I'm not sure if you have the "right" to new parts. Even with our crown corporation insurer in BC, unless you've got a special policy, they will use salvage parts, as long as they are perfectly serviceable. If it's not visible, and there's no damage on the replacement part, why make waves?
