Toyota Prius 3nd Gen - Converted to LPG hybrid

    Had my 2010 converted to the latest in LPG conversion kits, Zenit PRO OBD2 with a 52L tank cost was $1000 installed in Bucharest Romania. have around 5000 miles on it and cant find any negatives to say. Engine runs smoother on LPG vs gas in my Prius and no fumes odor whatsoever but I have noticed more water dripping from the tailpipe. Gas prices in Romania are around $1.70 per liter of unleaded 95*. Cost for lpg is $0.75 per liter.

    Been trying to upload jpgs with no luck, tried resize to 960 same problem. I did some searching and find that priuschat has been having this issue for some time now?

    Lucky you can save money using propane there. Here the price is too high. It's actually more expensive. I see you lost your spare tyre. Not good!

    I have a similar installation on a 2010 prius and a 2013 prius plus. I am from romania. 750km with one tank..

    Many of the new cars do not have spares anymore. I now have a small compressor with a built in fixaflat system similar to what my daughter has in her Volt. The car is from the Midwest and have been using it in Romania for the time being and so far the system has been flawless. I have racked up over 10k miles since.

    I see propane has dropped to 88 cents per gallon in Iowa, that's cheap! I do not know if there are any stations capable, or have the adapters to fill this system.

    Here in Europe they have a single style nozzle at all pump stations.

    Depending on my driving habits that are mostly in a rush, I get about the same as kye04 more or less.

    I read all the anti LPG comments with no real facts to prove the system is not safe. I would be worried about the gasoline tank before I would worry about the LPG tank in a crash.

    Ignorant or not, I wouldn't want my fuel supply in the passenger compartment with me. At least the gas tank is outside of the passenger compartment.

    Where do you connect to fill the tank- I couldn't tell from the pictures? Do you have to attach to the tank directly or is there some kind of remote fill? If direct, that would be somewhat of a pain to get at. And propane is heavier than air so it could pool in the area where the tank is. I had a pickup running on LP years ago and the 23 gallaon tank mounted to the frame under the truck and the filler was just exposed to the side. Others had a large (maybe 200 gallon) tank mounted in the bed of the truck but I didn't want to give up that space.

    Old thread, but, while -I- like alternative fuels, I get 900 km on a tank of gasoline.
    Further, the gasoline tank is not in the hatch, or under the hatch. It is forward of that, and has been crash tested and certified safe. Your propane tank, not so much. But as always, YMMV. ;)

    This is a nice solution for Europe. A friend of mine in Germany has a similar conversion of his car (not a Prius). In the USA, our safety regulations and bullet-proof tank requirements bump the conversion cost up to about $8000. There is a nice article about the USA situation in Popular Mechanics I have previously posted. Also in the USA we have much lower gaso cost than Europe, so there is no economic incentive to make the conversion.

    Talking $0.50 per liter gaso cost in USA right now.
