I just tonight picked up a 2015 Prius v (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon) two.
is there a way to quiet the beep down when backing up? I don't necessarily mean silence it, just not make it so loud inside the cabin.

no. you can ask the dealer to shut it off, that's about it.

because of the unusual shifter, it is easy to not realize you are in reverse. especially for us seniors.

You can also set it to one beep. You can't turn it off totally, at least in the US. I think I remember maybe Britain being different. Dealers sometimes charge a lot for this. There are threads on PriusChat that tell how to do it yourself. You'll need a bluetooth OBD device and a phone app like TorquePro. I did it- not particularly hard. My biggest challenge was figuring out where to store the file of codes on my phone.

I initially assumed they could hear it OUTSIDE which would make a lot more sense. But they can't. I don't understand the point of the whole thing. I thought the law was to issue a warning outside.

US regulators wanted there to be a clear signal for you to know that you were still in R. The beep was the cheapest way for Toyota to comply. You are allowed to decide you do not want that clear signal.

One benefit of being a senior is you've been around long enough to know you can screw up.

Yeah, the beep's there to remind you you're still in reverse. My 2 cents, just live with it. It's just a few seconds, and might actually save your bacon some day.

I asked my dealer to set it to just one beep, and they happily obliged. I like the one beep, and while it was a touch annoying to begin with, I've grown accustomed to it. I've been driving mine since January of this year.

My dealer also set it to one beep. I like it. I mean, the beep and the backup camera going on and the R blinking on the dashboard are all good clues that you're in reverse. The continuous beeps are, to me, overkill!

I'm not a senior yet, just a few more years to go,but I like the beeps on R,it reminds you that you're backing up for just a few yards and not for 300 miles. If I had to hear that beep for 300 miles then God forbid I take it out.
