Problem: I left a dome light while in the airport parking lot when I went on week long trip. When I returned the 12V battery was dead.
Question: How do you get to the 12v battery in the rear of the car? Rear hatch will not open without power.
Using the key to get in the drivers door, I had to get someone to crawl over the back seat and connect cables to jump start the car.

What am I missing? Is there a better way to jump start the car? Is there another way to open the rear hatch without the 12v battery power?

There's a jump point in the front of the car. There's also a manual lever to open the hatch, but you would still have to crawl to the back to access it.

Thanks for the prompt feed back. I will look for both.
Where, approximately is the manual lever for releasing the hatch?

    Thanks again.

After reading your post I did go and look a little closer and found the lever you were speaking about.
I appreciate your time in providing this feedback.

Thanks again, you have been helpful.

The under the hood jump point is in the fuse box. It's got a red, hinged cover. You depress a tab, pivot back the cover and you have a copper bar to clamp positive lead too. There's a protruding bolt just to the left (EGR valve hold-down bolt) that's good for connecting negative lead.

Be aware the little AGM 12 volter when discharged at such a perfectly low rate and then allowed to sit dead for a week will certainly sulphate that battery beyond repair.
    Its done.
Get a new battery installed asap. Subjecting a Prius to jump starts on a stone dead battery is very very dangerous to your wallet.

You really should read the manual for the two specific solutions to your exact questions.

Thanks for the information. I posted a picture of the latch (See silver arm in Pic) that you directed me to. Thanks.
