If one of the drivers did:
    • a forced charge, to make sure it still works (of course!)
    • had a 3-axis, recording accelerometer running during a subsequent max acceleration
    • had an audio recording
    • a recording GPS
    • the weight of passengers and fuel level in estimated gallons
And then shared that data with some of us who understand physics . . . we'll roll our own HP vs speed vs engine rpm charts. <GRINS>

Not mentioned before, then shift into "N" and keep the data recording going on. This would give us some roll-down parameters.

    yet. again. FIXED merged. cyclo

I attempted something similar with Torque Pro, but you really need to get weight and absolutely flat road to get accurate WHP. And it will vary depending on tire/road surface.

    3rd Gen dyno test

@Mendel Leisk , I explained in one of the posts but the Gen 3's dyno tests show a smaller improvement over the Gen 2's dyno test than what Toyota claims in the brochure. We won't know until we put a Gen 4 on the dyno to see what it really is putting down to the road.

The European fuel economy has been released. It is 3 l/100km, or 33.3km/l (NEDC norm).

The new Prius is thus the most fuel efficient non-plugin petrol car ever released to the European market.

What did the 3rd gen rate on that testing regimen?

    25.6km/l or 3.9l/100km.
But the same engine in the Auris hybrid was rated higher with up to 28.6km/l (3.5l/100km) on the 2015 model.

Yes. The 2015 Polo Bluemotion diesel is rated at 32.3km/l (3.1l/100km)

Lupo 3L and Audi A2 3L were rated at 3l/100km and they were both Euro 4 certified - new diesels have to be Euro 6 and you know how good VAG is at keeping that promise.

The only current diesels I know of that are this fuel sipping would be the PSA 1.6 ultra high efficiency diesels: Citroën C3, DS3, and Peugeot 208 which also get 3.0l/100km according to the unrealistic, and openly gamed NEDC norm.

I much rather go with the US EPA figures. 52mpg would translates to be 4.5l/100km for the core models and 56mpg = 4.2l/100km. Those figures are very achievable. With careful driving and favorable route and weather condition, one can expect it to do even better, perhaps around 3.7-3.9l/100km, which is about 30% off the NEDC cycle. Still not enough to tempt gen 3 owners to change based on fuel saving alone. Other improvements may... We will wait and see.

Interesting thing is now with Toyota applying the same improvements for the v and then the c.

    Improvements on fuel economy tests:

Japan JC08 non Eco models: 22% improvement from Gen 3 (37 km/l vs. 30.4), weight is similar (within 10 kg).
Europe NEDC non Eco models: 30% improvement (33.3 km/l vs. 25.6), similar weights. Toyota EU pre-estimated 18% !, do not know if the 33.3 is combined or maybe city?
US EPA non Eco models: only 4% improvement (52 MPG vs. 50), similar weights, this is Toyota internal test, is there an official EPA test? What are the non-adjusted results?

    What a mess!

Was Toyota very conservative in EPA estimate?

Yes I believe Toyota is conservative with the US EPA figures for some reasons, maybe Hyundai and Ford have something to do with it?

Not so much in the other countries because everyone is gaming the tests for the best figures they can get in a lab. They are virtually no penalties if you overstate your fuel consumption... So why not?

I fully understand the 'gaming' that is why I am talking of improvements and not absolute numbers.

The differences among the various national test systems are substantial enough that I wouldn't be surprised to see significantly different percentage changes as well. The U.S. tests have higher average speeds and weigh in harsher environmental conditions and more non-warmed-up use where relative improvements are more difficult. Toyota may have been able better tune the new generation to score high on the Japanese and Euro tests, but in ways that have less impact on the US test.
