Since the Entune update 8-20, I've had problems with playing mp3's via thumbdrive. I listen to audiobooks that have long chapters--60-80 min each. Before the update, the car/entune would remember my place when the car was turned off, so the next drive, I could pickup where I left off. For example, on the way to work, I would listen to the 52 min location, and on the way home, the mp3 would start from that point.

Since the update, on restarting, the section would restart at the 0 min point. Since there is no way to fast forward the usb thumbdrive mp3, I've been forced to rehear the same portion.

My car is a 2102 prius plug in basic. Any help will be appreciated. (I know I could burn to a disk, but trying to avoid this)

You can fast forward a usb mp3. Just hold down the track advance button. It will mute the audio, and the fast forward is about 2x. Even worse than my first cd player from around 1986...

I have the same problem since I foolishly updated Entune... 2014 Prius with the (Display Audio stereo package). I called in to support and they said there is no way to back off the update, but that they have noted this problem and would try to fix it in the next update... My only workaround is to play MP3s through my phone via Bluetooth (a pain!!). If I had realized there was no way to back off the update I would have waited at least for some new function that I wanted!

I e-mailed Toyota and their reply was:

We apologize as these concerns are still being researched and we do not have a resolution as of yet. We kindly ask that you check back with us again by mid-November for a status update.

Hi! I've been struggling mightily to get Toyota to acknowledge and fix this podcast "rewind" problem, which -- in my experience -- was newly introduced in the recent Entune 5.1. The previous Entune 3.2 worked properly for me. However, it may be some cars manifest different symptoms; my dealer said they didn't observe this bug on a Camry, even after the Entune 5.1 update. Who knows? Anyway, if you want to read the sordid details of my quest, check out my posts in this thread: New Entune Update with New Apps and More! | Page 3 | PriusChat. If there's a successful resolution to my case -- that's a big IF, of course -- then they can probably help you and the rest of the afflicted.

Hello, I have also repeatedly called Toyota about this same problem since I also listen to audio books from my thumb drive ( at least I used to ) and even called corporate. This is a huge inconvenience and unfortunately this is the first Toyota I have ever owned which is leaving a sour taste in my mouth. I purchased a brand new car that was working properly before instructed by the manufacturer to install an update. I am just wondering if it will take another year to get the fix for this problem and what will be messed up after the next update.

    E-mail from AsK Toyota yesterday:

Thank you for following up with us.
We researched your inquiry with our product specialist and they have advised that our engineer is still working with the system vendor. They advised a software remedy may be available early next year.

Please feel free to follow up with me early next year and I can check the status of this remedy for you at that time.

    Does not look too promising.

Okay, I got my car back. The good news is my problem is fixed -- by replacing the radio module with another radio that had the previous version of Entune.

This is a pretty stupid way to do a software downgrade. As a software developer myself, I can say with some authority that the Entune developers are morons. There is no excuse for precluding a downgrade path. Bugs happen, even to the best of us. In my own work, I always allow for a downgrade path.

I am hoping my agitation, and the agitation of others, has caused this information to percolate up the food chain, such that Toyota management is made aware of their idiot developers and their uninformed support network. I appreciate that companies like Toyota have banks of phone jockeys who are trained to deliver heartfelt apologies, but I couldn't care less how sorry they are; I just want to see Toyota fix the systematic dysfunction that got us to this point.

Here is an interesting post from another site. It's dated 10/7/14, so this pre-dates Entune 5.1. That's sort of discouraging, because it says Toyota should have learned their lesson at least a year ago.

Tundra Entune problems: Here is your solution (just got a call from Toyota) - TundraTalk.net - Toyota Tundra Discussion Forum

So this is my first post, but this forum has been a huge guide in the problems the Toyota entune has (shutting off, freezing, bluetooth chaos etc etc).

I just bought a '14 tundra and I am having a terrible experience with Entune. I know people have also been having the same problem. So I complained ALOT to toyota. I called them, I called them again, and i filed all sorts of complaints. I got the usual runaround from the dealerships about "updateing the software with a USB toyota would send them" etc that everyone else has dealt with.

Luckily, i got ahold of the entune tech support team in oklahoma. They were really really awesome and admitted the entune nav/bluetooth/iphone/ipod problems were of "an epidemic proportion" and that going to a dealership is not the answer. their solution to circumvent the cost cotting protocal of "updating the software" is this:

they gave me a case number immediately granting me a new stereo that has been rebuilt and tested to make sure it has all the fixes that were plaguing the old system. You take the case number in a dealership and they look it up and see that I have been granted the solution instead of having to go through the multistep problem of getting a flash update, then maybe getting permission to have the stereo replaced.

I hope this helps guys. I will drop back in and post the 1800 number to toyota's entune department.

she said all she does all day is issued case numbers for people to go get new stereos.

"this entune system has been a nightmare for us and we are rapidly trying to fix it, but there is a major communication problem with letting everyone know that we are trying to replace these units, and not just give people a software update that wont fix a hardware issue"

If anyone else is a member on the other toyota forums that have been discussing the Entune problems, please paste this post over there.

A friend of mine, who's a first-class agitator, says I should write a letter to the CEO. I'll see if the muse strikes me. In the meantime, I'll just enjoy having my car working again.

Has anyone with this problem tried the new Entune update from a week ago? I'm wondering if it fixes the issues reported here?

The only Entune head unit download I see is "The update released on: Aug 20 2015". If you are talking about the phone APP, this has nothing to do with this problem.

Huh, I figured the app is what updates Entune on the car. When I bought my '12 in February, I installed the latest version of Entune on my iPhone 4. When I connected the phone to the car via USB and launched the Entune app, it asked to update the car software. I allowed it to perform this update.

I just figured that's what happens anytime the Entune apps are updated.

So it's safe to update the Entune app on my phone? Toyota needs to call the firmware update and the app by different names to avoid confusion, but then again they like to name cars and trim levels in confusing ways (Prius v vs Prius V).

As long as there are no hard dependencies requiring the 5.1.0 firmware update. Who knew that the only way to restore the firmware would be to replace the entire head unit...
"Updates EntuneĀ® App Suite with enhanced iHeartRadio and adds the Destination Search and Slacker Radio apps. Also updates your multimedia system with the latest improvements to version 5.1.0."

I am having the same issue. Did the upgrade to fix the blue tooth disconnecting 2 minutes after you start the car and the update only worked for about a week and now is doing the same thing again. I would love to go back to the original firmware so that at least my USB would hold my spot. My car is a RAV 4 not a Prius but still having the same issue.

FYI--Toyota has an Entune update to 5.2.

    Redirect To headUnits

I have installed and used it for the last 5 days and it seems to have solved the MP3 problem described above.

I am a little unhappy that Toyota did not notify me as I have an open ticket with them and have received many phone calls over the past 6-9 months from them telling me that a solution is coming "soon". I found the update by Googling it.
