I spoke with a local Toyota sales manager, and he said the dealership just placed their first orders for the 2016 Prius on Monday. He asked if he could take my name and number and said I would call back later in December, closer to delivery time, and he said they weren't expecting the first deliveries until early February.

Maybe just me, but my first impression was you'd be asking about doing deliveries, in a Prius.

As much as I am looking forward to the Gen4, there is no way I'm getting a new car in February, in Chicagoland, when overnight temps can be -6ºF. I plan on having one good summer before scraping ice off my Prius.

I would certainly not think of buying a 2016 model year in April 2016. Maybe on a car that came out in Sept. 2015 and by April 2015 you can get deals on em'. But this car, that aint gonna happen. So at that point you're best wait is wait until the 2017's come out.

My opinion, once the Gen 4 was coming out later than we had all thought on the forums, Toyota should have just made the Gen 4 a 2017 model year and released it May 2016 and continued the Gen 3 as a short 2016 model year. Or better yet, not even had a 2016 Prius mode year. Volvo did that with the new 2016 XC90, they skipped the 2015 model year totally. But that's just me.

I agree with you Mark. In a very real sense, this makes that model year slightly less valuable and, being the first MY, you accept the almost inevitable problems that can come with a new generation.

    Waiting is good.

Well, waiting sucks but if it were me and my money, I'd be waiting.

After always getting "buyer's remorse" come mid-cycle refresh, I'm holding out for the 2-3 year mid-cycle change this time vs. buying 1st year out the gate. The content changes that inevitably occur will probably be worth it. That, and it'll give other owners enough time to shake loose any real bugs.

Of course, if the PiP is a game changer, I could go that route instead.

Yes, I agree on waiting also. I'm disappointed they are introducing such a radical new design with such boring colors. I know it's Attach804.jpg not for everyone, but the more I see this color, the more I like it.

I wonder.... it's made in the same factory so I wonder if a special special special order can be placed lol. Most will probably turn you down but I'm curious since you're not asking for a colour that is on another Toyota but one that is offered, just not in the US.

I say if they are offering a specific color somewhere then offer it everywhere else but make it known it'll be a special order vehicle. Specific deposit amount req'd, non refundable, it'll take longer than picking a vehicle from incoming inventory, blah blah blah. But at least have a method in place to allow for offering and ordering it.

If someone wants it bad enough, is willing to wait and pay most likely full price for it let them get it.

am, just what i would do if i were buying any car. i'm not bringing home a new car around here in february. (unless they make it worth my while:p)i don't know how many they are going to build, but if they aren't cautious, these cars could be sitting on the lot all summer. smartest thing to do would be trickle them out and see how it goes.earl schibe.
