Commendable - and we've seen these displays at the environmental displays put up by UC Davis & other universities at the great park in Irvine CA. This part of the article raised a question ~
In the past, Honda's software drove battery use to the point of failure, so that mileage dumped, and warranty issues arose. Any news how they've improved in that regard? I'd be concerned to purchase a battery / electricity management system made up of modules that were previously treated like a red-headed step child. that's one thing. Then there's the issue of utility company's already trying to add fees to solar customers, because their business plan (more profit, less maintenance) is heading down the toilet. Electric companies seem to dismiss the fact that they're not having to buy more power from other utilities during peak loads - thanks to more & more solar. One would think Honda's project will further jeopardize the utility company's business as usual model if it were to catch on.

Easy there, this is a grid tied battery made by someone else and likely software designed by a third company. When the battery capacity goes down, well you still are on the grid. Its not like the fudged software in the civic where mpg dropped. This is similar to tesla's power wall with panasonic inside only tesla's looks nicer and is 7KW. It really requires smart grid to be used. In the US that mainly is texas and parts of California then isolated citites in between.

Big use is probably other countries plus businesses like hospitals and data centers that need back up power anyway.

YMMV. This is really the california PUC not the utiltities you are complaigning about, although of course SCE and PG&E have a lot of input in that PUC. Again YMMV depending on local regulations. How is SCE going to get customers to pay for its busted nuke if everyone goes solar? How is CARB going to tax everyone's electricity if rich people make there own?

I've got a plan. I'm hoping that some of the other states' utility executives can lend them a helping hand considering their obscene non-performance based salaries. take MN & PA, for starters

I found it interesting that Honda used conventional, and very energy-wasting, stick framing for their envelope where a SIP envelope would have been so much more efficient, greener, and stronger. In a real home for real people, one must weigh the cost of the energy-saving tech with the money saved and I don't think Honda has done that well here. It would have been much more cost effective to get rid of the expensive geothermal heating/cooling and invest that money in a better envelope.
