We picked up our new Prius v Four the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, trading in our 2010 Prius. Put our first tankful in over the weekend after 417 miles and got 39 mpg. A far cry from the 50+ we got in the 2010 but with winter coming I know we won't be looking at our best mpg for a while. So far though we're liking everything. The v rides better with not as much road noise. The doors close with a more solid feel.

We don't have the tech we had in the 2010 and can hear the difference in the stereo. The nav screen is smaller but don't notice that so much anymore.

I think we'll like this as much as the 2010 and it's going to go on a 4000 mile roundtrip sometime after the holidays. Anxious to see what the hwy mpgs will be.

    2012 v Five no tech package....since new in 2012...Currently 42000 miles....overall MPG at 42+ calculated..
Highway mpg suffer and in our three trips of over 2000 miles each the highway mpg dropped under 40 mpg at over 65 mph....City economy is usually always above 44 and a few times 47 mpg calculated per tank fill.

The final drive gear ratio is higher numerically which is a big reason the mpg is lower.

I think I remember reading that somewhere. Could be why it feels a tad quicker too.

Don't think it's quicker than a Liftback. It is carrying an extra 220 lbs.I think 0-60 is closer to 11 secs. The Gen 3 is the low 10s (even though Toyota officially states it's 9.8 secs. I've yet to see someone achieve 9.8 secs. Most magazines tested the 2010 in the low 10s).

Most likely result of a higher gear ratio in the v would be that its a bit quicker off the line but slower from 30-60mph.

It will chirp the tires and has surprised occasional drivers, particularly if it's in Power mode. It would probably do more than chirp if not for the traction control.

Could be that I am feeling just a quicker jump off the line. I've got a spot where I go a set distance and driving the v I reach about the same speed as the hatchback when I hit that distance.

For sure I get better reception on xm in the v. Spots where the 2010 would drop out doesn't happen in the v. So far we're happy.
