Not sure if my HV Battery already replaced or not..

    Hi everyone.. Bought a 2005 Prius few month ago. It now have 104,400 miles on it. Amazing car by the way haha :) I was checking out those service records on Toyota Owner website
    One record left me wondering... It said 9/21/11- 71,495miles VISUAL INSPECTION PERFORMED BY A CERTIFIED TOYOTA TECHNICIAN, PERFORMED TIRE PRESSURE (PSI) INSPECTION, PARTS ONLY,REPLACED BATTERY, HYBRID BATTERY ASSEMBLY

    Does that mean Toyota replaced my HV battery few years ago?

    From what you wrote, it seems that the traction battery was replaced. Based on the numbers it appears it would have been done under warranty. If you have any doubts, it would be best to contact Toyota directly. They will know exactly what has been done. Any local dealer should be able to help you.

    Although the wording isn't perfectly clear, it would appear you scored one of the most ideal used Prius scenarios. I would agree with dorunron that verification is needed to be certain, though. If verified, the question becomes why the fairly premature death?.. I'd say check the hv battery fan for clogging. This is always a prime suspect in early hybrid battery failure and dealer techs don't always take it upon themselves to chase down the "why." If you find the fan clean then you've still crossed off one of the most critical items to inspect when buying used.

    Just pull the carpeted plastic cover off the top of the HV battery. Look for the white sticker. If it says manufactured by PrimeEarth then it's 'new'. If it says Panasonic it's old.

    ...the other generic reason for early batt replacement on a Gen2 is some owners run out of gas and then run down the HV battery too low. But the cooling fan should be checked, every 100000 miles or so.

    So I went to Toyota dealer today and we verified HV battery service record. Turned out the HV(Or you like.. Traction) Battery is already replaced under warranty. (Total cost for warranty repair is $4483.00 that if you want to know haha) We don't know why the original HV battery failed as there are many reasons that can cause HV battery failure..
    Well.. at least I have a Prius that have semi-new battery in it! :D:cool:

    That's really good for you. It comes with a 1-yr warranty so I guess thats over but we'd expect at least 8 yrs out of it.
