This morning as I was driving to work I spotted a burgundy ( or dark red ) 2016 Prius. It had 17" wheels so I am assuming a Touring trim, mind you I work very close to Toyota Canada HQ, I usually get to see the new cars before going on sale.
The car looks much better than the pictures or videos , I still don't like the back of the car  but the color was nice, it had dealer license plates.
I think this the car used in the Canadian presentation of the new Prius, maybe the only one in Canada for now.

I could not take any pics or video ( no dash camera) as I was driving and I just saw it for like 30 seconds. but I am going to keep an eye on it. The people from Toyota usually go the same places I go for lunch.

Very cool! I'm looking forward to seeing one in person myself. Your comment on the "rear" are my thoughts exactly. I like the vehicle over all with the exception of the back end. Was wondering if it would look better in person.

Seems a bit darker than it should be. Hypersonic red is pretty bright red (not as orangey as Barcelona Red).

Dark red hasn't showed up in the colour palette yet. (Salsa Red Pearl would be interesting but I don't think TCI will offer two types of red).

Echo MTS22 and OBJ... I have looked a nearly every video and photo posted out there and that back end..!! Oh, that back end! As a designer (albeit Architectural) proportion and conjoining of form are the DNA of good design. The bulging fins/edges extending around the rear quarter-panels and the kicked-in-the-nice person look of the lower rear bumper shroud have me mind-boggled! ... it's just perplexing!

I guess it looked darker because of angle that I was looking at it.

Possibly. That would be interesting. I've only seen it under bright lights (i.e. at Las Vegas) so I don't know how it looks under natural sunlight or on a cloudy day.

I know. Prius fanboys keep going back to the argument of aerodynamics. You don't see Prius gen4 ugly in the Tesla with even better CD. And Tesla is planning to make the Model3 with even better .20 CD. I bet it will not be Prius Gen 4 ugly.

Does Toyota understandso how a handsome car looks like any more?

They better kidnap an Audi designer like Kia.

If you prefer a Tesla, go out and buy one! Oh, right, it's $100,000. Aw shucks.

At least it has unique design, whiich Tesla doesn't unfortunately. Too bland for that price:

And if you got to street view in Japan, you will notice that they have quite different design than say US. As for coefficient of drag, there is a big difference with having to cool the ICE vs having to cool electric motor (less heat / hp), meaning that tesla doesn't have to have that grille in the front.

Back on topic. I see on the Toyota.ca site (OP is in Canada) they still show the 2015 if you select "Prius", but they do now have a "banner" with a clickable link that takes you to the 2016 images. "Available early next year" or something to that effect. This is new and only a week old at most. Last week the 2016 G4 didn't exist. ;)

Yeah I still haven't seen a news release from TCI's media site.
