    Does your car have an audio input socket in the center compartment armrest along with a power outlet.

    Hi John,

    I think this is a domestic model as the entire MFD is in Japanese (even the voice which says something when you go to settings page in MFD is in Japanese). According to my uncle (who is extremely interested in vehicles) what I have is the anniversary model. It has a small button next to the outside door handle which locks the car and to open you just have to insert your hand/finger inside the door handle and it automatically unlocks. This happens only if you have the car remote with you or close by.

    No. Only the power outlet is there.

    Is there anyway to identify the exact model of the car from the Toyota site?

    The door locking mechanism you have is the SKS system and is fitted to most but not all US model Prius. This was not fitted to the European gen2 models. As to where the hard drive is fitted I do not think I can be of any help. My only suggestion is you ask on the gen3 forum as this model has the hard drive fitted and it may be fitted in the same place as yours.

    Found the harddisk. It's in the NAV unit. I assume it's a linux file system..

    Ah, back to the start, the hard disk nav is under the drivers seat, you load a new disk with updated nav info, if you don't have a us model, say so..if you want to identify the exact components of your prius, get the vin to the toyota site.

    @Lucifer & @bisco

    In my case, the NAV unit is under the passengers seat. There is no DVD slot in that device (you can check the images from the part number in my attached photos). The NAV data should be in the harddisk, but I think NAV data is updated using G-Book - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, since this G-Book feature is there in the MFD.

    It is unfortunate that the system is most unlikely to work in Shri lanka, and that maps relevant to you will not be available for that system. I hope I am proved wrong.
    Let us know how things work out.

    Unfortunately the Sri Lankan map is not there, only the Japan map. I can still search addresses/telephone number and etc, but it's saying (according to Google Translate) that my current location is more than 5000km away. This G-Book system is only for Japan, so those features are useless outside Japan and it's obvious that it hasn't reached your shores bisco :)

    I'm looking into reading the contents of the harddisk using Ubuntu. When I do I'll update this thread with my findings.

    I'll update in coming weeks about the harddisk. Like everybody, I'm also busy during the new year.

    Yes there is no sri lanka map. I also searched for it. And my hdd seems to be corrupted. Songs are playing like a cracked dvd and the both rear speakers are not working at all. Is it possible to change the hdd inside the nav sys?

    Here finally found the HDD. It was inside the nav unit under the passenger seat. It is ordinary IDE 2.5 toshiba HDD. It was 30gb. Unfortunately I was unable to read the data because i dont have ide to sata/usb converter.
