Hello all reading, I have returned to Priuschats due to a complication I ran into with my car. Basically, I bought the car used about a year ago. The owner said he lost the spare key but sold me the car with one original smart key. After a month, I bought myself a new Smart key from Amazon for $110 and programmed myself using chicken Dance. All worked great with both keys. Recently, I lost that new key I programmed and returned to original key. At this point, the car has had 3 keys registered to the ECU (Original spare, original, and Amazon key) and I figured, might as well do a seed reset on the car to keep it clean. Before doing so, I purchased a used key on eBay for $45 with the same silver logo Smart Key functions in hopes of being able to program it the the car after a reset.

I managed to get the Techstream software for version 9.31.000 and with this, I went into the Smart key option, preformed a reset, used seed code from online sources, and reset completed. But, after returning back to the main screen, there is no option available for "Smart Code registration". I followed simple tutorials online and their screenshots are the same as mine except I am missing this "Smart Code registration" option in the menu of options?! Also, there was no option for "Smart Code registration" even before I did the reset but I thought maybe the option would appear or something.

I updated to version 10.10.018 in hopes of maybe a software glitch or update needed but same results! Now, my main original smart key does not work anymore with remote functions or smart key functions. Luckily, I can barley use it as a normal key to start the car and drive by inserting in slot which is such old school comparing to how I have been smart key functions since I got the car.

Can someone experienced with this tell me what is going on? What am I missing? Why are the options missing? This is stressing me out. I would appreciate the help.

maybe you need a new blank, instead of a used one?

No, this is not the case. The issue is clearly that the option is not appearing to add smart key. I can only reset smart keys which is odd. Im wondering if this is version related issues. Used keys can be added after a smart key reset method but issue is no column avaliable to press "Add smart key" or specifically ""Smart Code registration".

I am currently going to reattempt different versions of tech stream now as we speak. Since 9 and 10 were already attempted, I heard somewhere that 8 was for some reason functional somewhere on another forum.

Well looks like I got my key to work again so I am happy to be back to Square A again. The issue here is all these online tutorials focus more on Smart Key Resetting being the option followed by "Smart Code Registration". For my model or 2005, I believe that the "Key Code Registration" is the equivalent or similar feature just renamed and ordered. It showed to begin with that I had 0 keys out of 5 added and when I used it, the instructions mentioned to make sure the key has been added to the "Immobilizer" before running that function. Since the original key already started the car just fine when inserted in slot, it was considered "Added to Immobilizer". So after I went with this process, the key was added successfully.

So in order to fix my situation, I need to Reset the Immobilizer which specifies that it will then enter an auto register mode after in the description of the option. With this auto register, any keys can be added after I believe. Once any keys are added, this agrees with Add smart key option or "Smart Code Registration" and functions as it should. To engage in the Reset Immobilizer mode, you need to have the original or a master key already added to the Prius (Such as mine since it still starts the car). This makes sense as, you will ALWAYS need a key to remove keys or add another one plus no one wants to be left into a no keys added to system situation.

What stumped me the most is the different layout of the overall process. I assume newer Prius' have an all in one option but with my 2005, It is divided into a "Add to immobilizer" then "Add to smart key" order. but looking around started to reveal the differences and changes. I also used version 8 which I really don't think made a difference since options remained the same.

Wow, what an exercise. I'm glad you got the key working again. You must be the first one to attempt a seed rest while in the possession of a working key
