The 2016 Press Release shows Rain Sensing Wipers on the 4 and 4T, but the website just shows them on the 4T

I took my car in for service today at BMW of Nashville and while waiting, I went and found my sales rep to ask him about the over abundance of i3's they had on the lot. I didn't count them all but I would estimate there were about 30 of them. He said they have applied huge incentives way below invoice and they still aren't selling due to fuel prices being less than $2 a gallon.

The wheels on the White Car look better, but I think the Prius needs more solid looking wheels, especially in the 15" size... What I mean, is something more "Substantial" looking like the previous generation 17's. I do like the 3T & 4T Wheels.

I haven't seen it mentioned yet but just FYIs for those ordering Touring models

Black gets blue stitching and blue vent accents
Moonstone gets turquoise stitching and turquoise vent accents.

That is not what I am seeing on the Build site for the Prius 4. The site indicates certain colors (including Sea Glass Pearl) are only available when paired with the ATP option, but you can also configure ATP with other colors. I am guessing these dependencies (i.e., exterior-interior color combinations being tied to ATP) are reflections of inventory limitations.

Why would you pre-order the car without even test driving it? And why, unless you only have one dealer in your area, would you not wait until multiple dealerships have the car and use one against the other to get a lower price? Both of those are what I plan to do.

I assumed the Toyota "Build" site would not actually build you a car bur rather allow you to indicate your preferences and share that with dealerships in your area, who may or may not have inventory/allocations that match your specifications. I suppose this impression is based on how other sites with similar build capabilities work (e.g., Edmunds, TrueCar, etc)

Is that how the Toyota Build site works?

I'm under the impression that it's based on region which never made sense to me (since all packages and all colour combinations are available across the country in Canada). Basically, when you enter your zip code in "Build Your Own", it'll load the packages that your regional HQ deemed popular. Of course you can order whatever TMS offers but it'll be a special order IIRC. (at this point, it doesn't matter since there's no inventory but it makes a difference in a few months when there are cars on the lot and you want something specific that your region doesn't offer).

But of course right now you can't "build and price" a 2016 Prius on the Toyota Canada site. It's not there.

The region select is there for taxes etc. to get the price accurate. For example, in Alberta there is no Provincial sales tax, just GST, BUT if you select a Prius, you HAVE to take a ridiculously priced "block heater". Whereas in parts of BC you have to pay provincial sales tax and GST, but you aren't forced to take a block heater.

I've never seen any indication the Toyota site takes info. when you access the "build" function. Unless you press the button "find a dealer", and even then it just directs you to the nearest dealer(s). I know the dealer can find the car equipped as you want, but I suspect they use an "inside" site for that.

Thanks for those insights, although I am not sure you can order whatever you'd like as special order if Regional rules are being used to restrict the options presented to you (e.g., I can not select Sea Glass Pearl Prius 3 without getting ATP).

Well the regional preferences are such that the dealers don't have to stock every combination. They just stock the ones that they seem to be able to sell more quickly. If it's available on toyota.com, then that means the factory will be able to make it for you. This means the dealer will have to import from another state that has that combination or put an order in for you. Perhaps "special order" wasn't the right terminology.

Yes... They just "Allocate" a vehicle with the specifications you request from the pipeline of shipments to other dealers, and have it shipped to the local dealer instead.
