    2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid release date, review

    Yeah, the bump is big. I think it loses something like 3 cubic feet of cargo space too. But then again, it's still as much as most of the non-hybrid competition.

    Nonetheless, we ordered ours today. Didn't even see it in person, and obviously didn't test drive it. Unfortunately, almost no stock around of the Limited with Technology Package, and none at all with the cinnamon interior so we had to get a factory order. They claimed it would take less than 6 weeks. That seems rather optimistic to me. Does 4-6 weeks seem accurate for a factory order?

    We need two cars, so this will complement our existing 2012 Plug-in Prius.

    It takes about a month to reach the west coast so I would lean towards the 6 week estimate (assuming it'll take a week to ship across on rail, then a few days to truck it from Concord to your dealer).

    It also depends on where in the production line your vehicle is. Is it already in the process of being built? (So you're reserving it on the production line) or is it just on paper and the car hasn't even started to take shape. That'll add a few days.

    Thanks for the info. They said they already had the XLE Hybrid on order, so they will try to change one of them to the Limited with Tech, but I'm not sure how far along their existing XLE order was, so I don't know if it's feasible or not.

    I think that just means they'll reassign the XLE Hybrid to another dealer or do a trade with another dealer that has a Limited w/ Tech and is willing to take an XLE.


    For our 2005, we ordered it at the end of Sept and picked it up on the 25th Oct.

    For our 2010, we ordered it early August (I was told it was en route hence the shorter wait time. A Blue Ribbon w/ Misty Grey would've pushed delivery to mid Sept because it was still on the production line) and picked it up 29th Aug.

    BTW, this is in stark contrast to my first hybrid order. I wanted the 2001 Prius, but the wait lists on those were like forever, even though I bought late in the production year. So I ended up just getting a dealer demo instead. Otherwise I might have had to wait over 6 months or something.

    Those cars were relatively rare on the streets at the time too obviously, so imagine my shock when I found an identical Prius 2001 in the parking spot next to mine in my shared condo garage.

    The pleasant surprise was the financing rate on the RAV4 Hybrid. I was just planning on putting the purchase on my HELOC, but there is no discount for cash purchases on this car, and they're offering the same financing rates as their regular RAV4s, which is 0.99% for 36 months and 1.49% for 48 months in Canada. Contrast that to the 2.99% and 3.99% respectively for the Prius Plug-in.

    There are cubby holes under that flat bit which lifts up. Not a convenient location though.

    Toyota Canada strikes again. A bunch of the RAV4 Hybrid accessories like the all weather floor mats and the cargo tray are unavailable in Canada. I guess we Canadians don't need winter floor mats?!?

    I had the same problem with the Prius Plug-in cargo tray and floor mats. For the floor mats the car (used) came with regular Prius floor mats. Not ideal but they worked. However for the cargo tray I had to buy it from the US through eBay.

    Unfortunately, none of those accessories seem to be available for the RAV4 Hybrid on eBay right now.

    Here they are available both individually and as parts of various packages. Are you sure you don't have them in any of those accessory packages?

    Nope. Not listed at all.

    The only available accessories from Toyota Canada for the RAV4 Hybrid are:

    Cargo net - envelope
    Cargo net - hammock
    Block heater
    Hood deflector
    Paint protection film
    Rear bumper protector
    Roof rack cross bars

    There are no accessory packages by the way. All are as individual items.

    I've driven my XLE all day today for about 100 miles for both long and short distances. And even though it's not limited, I have really liked the features it has already. Especially one thing that I never thought I would need before is the adaptive cruise control. It's so cool, I put on 75 mph cruise control as soon as I got on a freeway and drove for about 30 miles on it. Whole time, I didn't have to touch brake or gas because the car slowed down itself when it got closer to a car in front and then sped up itself when the car in front went away. A nice feature for a long trip and will save you from leg pain! :) Also another reason I chose XLE over limited besides the price was the tire size. It has 17 inch which I think is more gas efficient and affordable to replace than limited's 18 inch tires, right? Anyway, I'm still learning and discovering other cool features of it but one thing that I've tried figure out was to find out how much its mpg was. I looked around a little but couldn't find any mpg info on the dash? :)

    Oh just want to mention that, even though the limited ones are more expensive, people must really like it! Because I heard the dealer I got my XLE from only received 1 limited and 1 xle in December and they sold the limited within a few hours after it came to them!

    TCI has been including all-season mats for a few years now so they're standard. That's why they're not listed as an accessory.

    For the cargo tray, yeah that's a mystery. For me, it was the opposite. TCI only offered the cargo tray for the 2010 Prius and I wanted the cargo mat so I bought it from a US dealer. I don't carry a lot of dirty things in my car so I didn't need a rubber tray. I prefer the carpet mat to help absorb or muffle sound (no idea if it actually helps but I figured carpet is quieter than rubber).

    Good to know about the winter floor mats being included in Canada now.

    Now I just need to find a cargo mat somewhere. My wife buys soil and plants for the garden and moves them in my Prius. I guess that will change to the RAV4 when she gets it. It's taller, so better for plants.

    BTW the carpet type cargo cover is also not available.

    Got it. It shows under 'i' on the little dash. So far it's 36.3 mpg and still going up which is amazing because I've never seen the regular Rav 4s making more than 26!

    Well the dealers around here are pretty hopeless for getting a Rav4 Hybrid. Mostly they don't know what one is, but when pressed they say they are getting about 1 per month allocated for the foreseeable future. Looks like its special order or nothing. Nice marketing plan Toyota. o_O

    Yeah it's a pretty amazing car but not sure if I can tell same about a commercial I just saw on TV for the Rav 4 hybrids! :)
