i also have the issue on my 2010 Prius, and my dads 2012 plug in also have the gap at the bumper but we haven't applied any pressure to the bumper. Maybe this issue is common on the Prius model. I know there shouldn't be this kind of issue, but i am keeping away from the rip off dealer avoiding getting any stupid excuse they would provide me "that its my fault".
I will later when i get time take of the bumper and find out how it can be fixed!

    Greetings
    Christian

@saulbassfan, can you please post the install instruction diagram on the bracket gap reducer.

I'm trying to understand how it is installed on the rear bumper.

I think a visual on the install diagram will help

I am referring to the install diagram shown on your pictures the brackets are on top of.
    Thanks

Kenstyle plates are designed for Kenstyle's body kit. Cause the bumper cover set of Kenstyle's aero kit is heavier than original. It needs something to support the bumper cover.
The installation is phase the plates to inner side of the bumper cover.
The install instruction diagram as shown below.

    @saulbassfan or @alexendra,

Just to make sure I'm looking at the diagram correctly can you please confirm.

The brackets are installed inside of the actual bumper shell (with 3m tape) and the notch on the bracket lines up with the bumper lip notch.

When this is all done, then the actual bumper shell slips right back into the body plastic panel.

    Does that make sense??

It would seem to be easy to fabricate these brackets if the proper measurements were obtained. Wasn't someone going to do some CAD, as in cardboard aided design? :D

Correct. It is pretty much a shim.

Is the shim gonna work long term, or would the gap re-open over time, shim and all? Who knows.

If someone can supply numbers I'll draft and post a pdf.

As long as the mounting tape/adhesive holds, it should be permanent. If the adhesive fails, it can be removed and new mounting tape applied.

The kenstyle brackets really can reduce the gap. But brackets have 1mm to 2mm thickness ,and the tape thickness is about 2mm. When installing the kenstyle brackets, the bumper cover will be a little protruding.

Since no one is willing to post dimensions of these plates I did a quick scaling in CAD assuming that the instructions are printed on an A4 paper. Below is what I came up with: Plates.JPG
Someone, please confirm this...dims in metric.

I used to have to resort to this crap all the time, looking at partially undimensioned vendors drawings, laying a scale on the screen, entering values into a ratio equation to extrapolate, PRAYING that it was to scale, lol. Here's my take, similar to yours. Can't see how to get that upstanding lip dimension, just eyeballed it. probably close enuf for government work:
