Parking doesn’t get much easier than with available Intelligent Parking Assist (IPA), another technology making its debut outside of Japan. A simple system design using only ultrasonic wave sensors, IPA is activated by the driver to offer automatic steering into parallel parking spaces, or reversing into perpendicular spaces. The system also offers automatic steering to exit a parallel space.

Have not tried the active assist yet. Only have had the sensors warn me about impending dangers.

omg...back up perpendicular parking (battle park) is probably the easiest kind of parking compared to others, yet people really need to press a switch a few times and get the car to do it, MIND BLOWN

anyways, maybe for those super tight spots on parallel parking, but...it would probably suck either way to be behind whoever can't park or is shifting through the parking options of their car to park their car

Just a note for Gen 3 & Gen 1 Prius v owners, SIPA in the Gen 4 works differently than the IPA/APGS in the Gen 3/Gen1 v.

    • Old IPA will perpendicular park with only one vehicle parked on one side. SIPA will only park in between two vehicles.
    • Old IPA requires you to press the Pre-Support function prior to passing the perpendicular parking spot, then it will guide you to the stopping point. SIPA requires that you stop beside the intended parking spot (roughly where the front doors or b-pillar is), then it will automatically steering diagonally and then back in (with you controlling the transmission and brakes)
    • For parallel parking, SIPA will straighten/centre the car for you (as long as you shift to D when it asks you to). Old IPA will just back you in. You have to steer forward to centre the car (I know, so much work ;))

A "watered down" version of it is now available with the 7.1 update for those who have the Auto Pilot option.
