    The dealers say they only get what is allocated to them by Toyota.

    Well I just bought one that's sitting in Tokyo harbor. Slightly better than ordering one, but not by much.
    Limited, blizzard pearl, nutmeg interior and ATP. 1st time I ever paid full retail, oh well.

    I'm curious, why full retail this time? To get the one that's already built, instead of having to wait? I didn't pay full retail, but I will have to wait for the thing to get built.

    BTW, it's already sitting in the harbour, how much more time will it take to get to you?

    Interesting. Up here at the dealer just outside of Toronto, I sort of got the impression they were not getting a huge amount of orders for the Hybrid just yet. They did order what they were allotted for the Hybrid - only 1 unit I think, configured as XLE - but had no stock of the hybrids, yet nonetheless were still willing to negotiate for a sale too. I wonder if it partially has to do with the bargain basement price of oil right now. Or maybe this particular dealership was short on their quota this month or something.

    They told me 4-6 weeks for a new Limited order from Japan. I guess this confirms Tideland Prius's statement that it'd probably be more like 6 weeks, and the 4 weeks is really unlikely. I just hope it doesn't stretch to 8-10 weeks, although I guess the silver lining I suppose is I could defer the purchase of winter wheels for another season.

    Allotments are pretty weird, subject to mysterious formulas generated by bean counters.
    Different sales regions get different numbers and also get different vehicles.
    In the mountain regions here, all the limited models come with ATP. In Texas and the south they all come without ATP but have a bunch of special little extras like fancy mats, roof crossbars, etc. Even when you search on Toyota.com the available extras are different in different zip codes.

    Anyhow, there are 4 dealerships in my state, they have each received one so far with a few more scheduled in the coming months. In Denver, Phoenix and even El Paso they appear to have anywhere from 10-20 sitting on dealer lots. The ones we've seen here all sold within 48 hrs.

    It works a bit differently in the U.S.. Dealers get an allotment of vehicles. The region decides what packages will suit the region's taste and will order those packages in colours that will sell. The idea is to have the car on the lot for the buyer to walk in and purchase and collect the next day.

    SET and GST do their own thing. (SET = Southeast Toyota, GST = Gulf States Toyota. I don't remember the exact states that fall under those two regions). They tend to have their own combinations of accessories that are not factory offered. They usually come with extras like tint, aftermarket alloys or 3rd party all-weather mats as part of the vehicle's selling package.

    In Canada, the Toyota dealer orders the cars they want and if a customer wants a car that isn't in their inventory or on order, they're more than welcome to place an order with the factory or reserve one that's on the production line (if one matches their order). Dealers can also trade with others nearby (although in situations like Edm-Cal or Sask-Reg, nearby is a few hundred km) to help sell the vehicle. Rarely do they trade across provinces (usually with year-end sales and there's a last model year car you want that's available in another province. They may grab it for you but I think it's extra cost for the dealer for shipping it over. You'll have to double check with the dealer on that as I'm not certain on the last statement.

    The link didn't work anyway a local TV guy at a car show says he's found his new car - the most fuel efficient SUV, Rav4. It is an awesome car and doing a great job on half foot snow today!

    The OEM cargo tray for the 2016 RAV4 Hybrid is now available on eBay. I just ordered one. Expensive due to the shipping and import fees, but I can deal with that. ~US$125 all-in.

    I was finally able to spend some quality time with an XLE Hybrid today. I have to say I was shocked at the total lack of any meaningful storage space. Nothing under the seats, nothing under the rear deck either. I will be tempted to remove the spare and use that space for storage.
    I will say that the regular Rav4 isn't really any better in that regard.

    Tideland, some recent buyers of the RAV4 Hybrid say it doesn't come with winter mats.

    Maybe it's just because they don't think the "all weather" mats really qualify as winter mats, I'm not sure though. I'll have to inquire.

    Anyhoo, I'll probably just end up getting aftermarket winter mats.

    They need to double check with the dealer. My Prius didn't come with a cargo net even though it's standard equipment. I had to ask "where's my cargo net?" and the guy just took it from another Prius lol.

    It would appear so. I haven't bought a car since they started adding it as standard equipment but it started a few years ago. (after I bought my 2010).

    You are correct (again). I asked some new Canadian owners and they said they didn't get winter mats. Well I finally saw the pix and yes they did. The problem here is that they just aren't the greatest for winter so they didn't consider them as qualifying as winter mats.

    I have the same issue with the Prius BTW. The OEM all season mats just don't do the job well for Canadian winters. Maybe they should call them 3-season mats, like the tires. ;)

    I will probably buy the Weathertechs for both the RAV4 and the Prius.

    Really? I love the hexagon design with the twin water channels. I thought they do a better job than the U.S. all weather mats (We're talking Gen 2 or Gen 3 Prius) which look like they were meant for dirt only. There's a new design for 2016 and it has a lip rather than the twin water channels.

    The problem is the mat doesn't go up the sides or cover the foot rest so the ice and water go over the edges. I get salt stains around the outside of mat near the door and all over the footrest area in my Prius.

    I got these 3d MAXpider mats for my Sonic.

    They are deep and more rigid than 'rubber' mats. The foot rest portion doesn't go all the way up on my set, but it looks a little higher in that photo of the Rav4 set. The ball of my foot rests on the mat, but dirt is getting onto the upper portion of the car's carpeting there.

    There are holes for the retaining posts on the driver's mat. They have a plastic dam around them so a good amount of water has to get into the mat before it overflows the hole. I haven't done it, but reviewer got so plastic plugs from a hardware store and glued them in with some silicone sealant.
