First of all, I admit freely, that this is topic may be quite unusual as my first posting on this forum. I've been a member of other forums, but quickly lost interest when I saw a show of too much bigotry, hatred and intolerance to other members. Having read some of the more heated debates on this forum, I read the one dealing with homosexulaity among second graders as presented in a harmless fairytale. I read on to the passages where some adults felt that thier children were too young to express any curiousity about the subject and find this to be tragically naive. As another pitiful story enters my realm of consciousness, I felt compelled to share these small articles with the members here.

    CNN

    Enquirer

    ABC Chicago

One of the things that bothered me the most was the report by CNN during thier morning broadcast today. The reporter was quite upset at the lack of supervision, which is understandable, but he showed little lack of concern regarding the parents of these 12 boys (thankfully, the Superintendant of the School did). The fact of the matter is, is that these parents have raised thier children with either taught behavior that shows a lack of compassion for other people or a complete lack of teaching them against this type of beahvior, which despite the PC term, Sexual Assault, is still known as RAPE.

Rape is a crime of forcing somebody into sexual activity, in particular sexual penetration, against his or her will through use of physical force, threat of injury, or other duress. In some jurisdictions it is also considered rape if the victim is unable to say "no" to intercourse, due to the effects of drugs or alcohol or is under the legal age of consent. The word originates from the Latin verb rapere: to seize or take by force. The Latin term for the act of rape itself is raptus. ---Defintion of Rape- Wikipedia

There are many feelings that will arise from these articles, but no one should deny that children do horrible things to each other when thier parents ignore thier children's developing sexuality until it's painfully late to have a heathly influence on thier children. Solely teaching the mecahincs is cruelly subversive, but unless children are raised as being compassionate human beings (especially concerning sex), the world will continue to raise disturbed children that will grow into disturbed adults. Unfortunatley of which, the world currently has an abudance of.

I, myself, at one time expressed privately and to an extent publicly a bigotry toward homosexuality. Those times for me are over. My personal battle with intolerance based on sexual orientation came to a close when I realized that the hate and spiteful actions I practiced were borne of fear and taught intolerance. I am my own person, why should someone else wield that painful and crude power over my mind? It wasn't some magic moment that occured, it's been a step by step process that happens everyday. I'm conscious of those feelings I once had and nowadays, I try to help stop the spreading of homosexual intolerance when I encounter it.

A friend of mine used to share the same hate I once did and he still has a long way to go, but we had a conversation the other day that surprised me. We were doing manly things, i.e. working on his International truck (big rig) when out of the blue he began a conversation with me. He told me he no longer hated people for thier homosexuality. That he realized that everyone should be allowed to love whomever they choose. "Why should I get in the way of that? Besides love is beautiful," he said.

I'm sorry if this topic is thought of as too heavy duty for someone that just joined. But like I said, I do try to stop the spreading of intolerance, bigotry and hatred. Thank you for your time.

Is there some question you intended to put forth? Just soliciting comments on the subject of kids sexually assaulting other kids? I don't think there's anything wrong with bringing a subject like this up here in Fred's, but the intent of your post isn't clear to me.

    "We were doing manly things"

List of manly things to do:

    1. Cut down tree with chainsaw on weekend. (ok, I admit it is only a pansy electric chain saw)
    2. Cleaned out gutters.(ok, just a wimpy cordless blower, but still ...
    3. Post to the gun thread (wait a minute, I'm not that screwed up)

This is what happens when parents are replaced by Xbox, or "pacify" their kids with such... I don't know if they actually knew what they were doing, or mimicing something they saw or heard... Of course, I suppose either way it makes no difference in the end...

BTW, welcome aboard! :) You're gonna have to try A LOT harder for the "unusual" title in here!!! Pretty good for starters though, glad you did it!!!

I'm still cracking up at this line:

"working on his International truck (big rig) when out of the blue he began a conversation with me. He told me he no longer hated people for thier homosexuality"

Not so much what was said, but how... I can picture it now, big burly guy working on his truck, all greasy, wearing a grease smudged "CAT DIESEL POWER" hat, pops his head out of the engine bay, holding some ridiculously sized socket, and out of the blue, says, "You know, I no longer hate homosexuals...."

My intent : to think further than oneself, to be introspective and most importantly to acknowledge that our actions can produce either a more terrible world or a more loving one. This can go without more comment or perhaps with, it serves only as my perspective.

As for our conversation, yes, it pretty much happened that way. He did state the following first, "You know I've been thinking a lot lately..."

We're very close friends and usually talk about these things as we've gotten older.

But I have to agree with efusco~ I didn't get it either

I got it... He was just sort of making a statement, venting, if you will, making a commentary.... A cheerless soliloquy!

Having sex with chicks? Boy, that's perverted. Sheep are bad enough, but chicks? Is it even possible?

Did you see the episode of Family Guy where Peter "swims with the bulls" in a sychronized swimming meet?
That has to be the best send up of "manly activities" I've seen.

No, not at all. It's just that I wasn't sure what you were getting at..if you had an opinion, question, arguement, whatever. I'll stick with the soliloquy suggestion.

Hope you didn't think I was complianing, just wondering and asking for clarification.

In my 26 yrs of law enforcement, I have seen the gradual drop in ages of offenders (along with an increasing number of females involved in violent crime). Anyone who denies this is occuring is BLIND!
    \
I agree with the comment that it is linked to uninvolved parenting. It is like a stew. Add less parenting, some amoral attitudes, loads of violence in the media, increased sexuality (inappropriate types- sexual violence and sex w/o respect or commitment), and this is what you get. Ye reap what ye sow, in other words.

Go yo www/killology.com. This guy has loads of info making the case that a LARGE pary (if not all) kid violence is linked to video games.

His books are really great reading (particularly if you are in law enforcement)

    “Doing manly things†. . .

I must wonder out loud.

Could this phrase also be interpreted as objectifying gay men as nothing more than sexual objects?

Or, in converse . . . are men doing other men not doing “manly things
[It wasn't on any of the lists of manly things to do.]

    I'm so confused.
Glad I am straight, like only chicks, and therefor don't have to torture my brain over this conundrum.
. . . although, I do feel an overwhelming urge to post something in the gun thread.
