Any help would be appreciated . I took a one owner 2009 with 100,00 miles for a pre-inspection today.
All came back in fairly good shape however the mechanic ( an independent shop ) found this error code P1455. I have read several threads on this topic that were very helpful. I took the car back to the dealer & said I was interested in the car if they looked into whether the gas tank would need to be replaced. The parts manager gave my husband and I a long speech about how they checked the car before it was traded in and never found this code. He explained that the code has to appear twice for the " check engine light " to come on. He told us he would take the car for a test drive himself & put it thru another diagnostic test to see if he could get another error reading. He will be getting back to us tomorrow.
Should I be concerned about purchasing this car if the dealer cannot get another P1455 code ?
The dealer also said we could discuss in writing a timeline for them to repair it if the check engine light does
come on & ultimately a repair is needed. If it were you would you buy the car ? What kind of timeline should we ask for ? Also on a side note the price of the car was just lowered from 11,991 to 9,991 ???
Thanks in advance for any help...I love this site ( sometimes better than a good book ) !

To protect you financially for this possible replacement - Offer the dealer $8000 for the car. See what they say. They will probably counter with $9000. Is that price point ok with you? Now remember this is the out the door price not financing or adds or whatever. If you relent the price will steadily climb. Remember the dealer wants to make the sale - problems later will not be so important to them as they have cashed you out. Also remember there are plenty of these cars around. And by the way they are not moving off the lots due to the low and lower prices of gas.

Also keep in mind, check engine light relates to emission and could be costly both time and $ to sort it out

Thank You - my husband & I were discussing the low ball offer. Then if the code does indicate a problem
fixing it with our own mechanic. However they are checking the car out today & want to make things " right " or send the car to auction as they don't want a car sold that has problems !
