I am looking into the “Toyota Auto Care Prepaid Maintenance” for 4 yr / 55,000 mi (don’t say it, I don’t like messing with the oil myself). From the offer here it’s approximately $875. At oil changes only the local dealer charges $32.00 which every 5,000 mi, would be $352 of the $875 leaving, $523.

    Question:
For those of you whom have had the 15, 30 and 45k services done, how much was the average cost? Does a person save in the long run on the prepaid maintenance

(PS, the cost won't be adding to the cost for finacing the car)

no its not worth it, i paid 1250.00 for mine, the prius will only need oil changes and 1 cabin air filter and 1 air filter, so that is like what $360 worth @ 30 per oil change and 2x15.00 for air filters???

now strictly speaking your average bay area, california toyota dealers who charge $95 for the 5000 service, then i suppose its worth it

i wish toyota would separate the prepaid maintenance plans, like have different prices
    for different models

looking at california toyota ads the cost of a 15,000 service would probably be at least $159 (90 for the oil change + 69.95) for the cabin air filter.

the 30k is just like any other interval except replacing the cabin air filter and engine filter
the 45k is just like any other interval, an oil change, an inspection and tighten bolts

    Agreed, it's not worth it.

I understand not wanting to change oil yourself -- though it's easy in the Prius -- but engine and cabin air filters can be done in two minutes apiece with no tools. There is little reason to pay someone else, whether through a prepaid package or by-the-job, to change those.

The only other regular maintenance is tire rotation. Some Goodyear dealers will rotate OEM Goodyear tires for free. If you don't have one nearby, a tire shop likely still will do it more cheaply than the car dealer.

I don't do my own oil changes either. Never, ever buy prepaid maintenance or tell a dealer that you want their X miles/Y months service package. These are a complete waste of your money. Paying a dealer to perform only the items specified in the Prius Scheduled Maintenance Guide I've spent $240 in the first 52 months/31000 miles. I did save a few dollars by spending $20 at the dealer's parts counter and replacing the cabin air filter myself (it's really easy).

The engine air filter is even easier. It's inside the black box with the snap top under the hood. If you remove this filter to inspect it and then re-install the same filter, notice that the dirty (intake) side faces *down*, not up.

I bought the prepaid on a 2011 Prius hoping to avoid the manipulation to sell unneeded services by the service reps. Frankly, this is an embarrassment for Toyota. Toyota makes no attempt to give its customers the convenience of prepaid for a value price. I'm guessing that 50% of what you pay goes into greed lined pockets. Shame on you, Toyota.

Well lets see....I can buy a 5 quart jug of of Mobil 1 5-30 at Wallmart for $26. The OEM oil filter is $4. so thats $30. for extremely high quality oil instead of vat oil the dealer will squirt in your car. G2 takes 3.5 quarts so you harvest back 1.5 quarts.
Go to any oil change place takes 10 mins you can watch them and with a coupon its $ 20.
So thats $45 an oil change and 10 mins.

Easily go 10,000 mile an oil change so thats around $225 for 55,000 miles.
Your Prius needs nothing else for 55,000 miles. Nothing.

Compare with a 2 hour wait at the dealer...subjected to endless upsells...your car disappears into the building so you can't watch it.......and you get god awful dino vat oil for your oil change...and they overfill the crap out of everytime.
