nice to hear you got it sorted without too much drama or having to buy anything else, that's excellent! done well :)

inverter in the Prius must be pretty tough to put up with that, sounds like the car could take from the battery but not give any back, had enough power for a ice start up or two and a little drive then the battery depleted and game over lol.

    Inverted inverter wires.
Not a common problem, that's for sure.
    Thanks for letting us know.

Inverted inverter wires! Clever! I like it!
Ozmatt, actually the battery didn't deplete as fast as I thought. It still had plenty of juice. The battery gauge was acting funny due to the wires being crossed apparently.
I was an eager spectator for the most part on this one. As I understand, and I may be wrong, but the wires were wired in such a way that the motor was "off phase". Without a clean 3 phase AC signal the inverter wouldn't charge the battery, but it was able to push the vehicle in drive and reverse, albeit very jerky and unstable. And it started one time.
Still don't exactly know if it did not start because the computer logic had disabled it or it was still attempting to start, but it would not start because of the electrical issue. I am assuming that if the ECU disabled it, it would set a DTC.

    lol @ Eric the irony

yeah would make sense if it didn't start at all but to get one start, really not sure someone out there would know the true answer

would expect to see a code if it was a computer condition but who knows prius can be pretty cantankerous when It comes to certain conditions and this is a pretty rare case :) either way its great you fixed it so easy and no further damage

When initially "ready enabled" Prius MFD displays last known SOC rather than actual SOC, that could have something to do with one start then out, once car gets going if it cant establish true SOC it disables ice start to keep on top of battery health as prius is over protective of its battery. That's just a stab in the dark

    cheers
