Maybe market research showed that these areas have the greatest volume of higher trim levels while the other parts tend to favour the base models?

Just roll with the punches? The base doesn't have white trim, and does have a spare?

And you can get heated seats and TSS-P for $500. I haven't seen a deal on a package since the late 90s. (Cdn$1,000 for leather seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel/shift knob and synthetic leather door trim, moonroof and traction control on a 2000 Camry XLE V6. In comparison, it was a little pricey Cdn$815 for ABS & a full size spare tyre on a 1999-2001 Corolla. Odd combination)

First shipments on the west coast will arrive 1st March, or so I am told.

Nearby dealer says not for another two months. Guess they have lots of 2015s to unload. ;)

Probably. They don't sell too many in Edmonton.

The really funny thing about the cars in Canada is many don't get the LiIon battery (the model sold everywhere has the NiMH battery, only Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal get the two higher models with the LiIon battery for now, the Technology and the Touring).
So just a "basic Prius" for non-major metropolis places. YET they ALL get LED headlamps??? Wow!

Oh, and I had to download the brochure to get the "real info." on the cars. The website just has the "wow, look at this" stuff. ;)

I was told by my local dealer (largest in the maritimes) that the Prius technology will be available eventually to other provinces. I'm personally getting the 2016 Prius base upgraded package because it's what I can afford (even though it is almost $2,500 more expensive then the other car I was looking at.. 2016 Honda Civic EX-T)
Test drove it today and it went amazingly!! Dealerships here are willing to budge much on price maybe a few hundred (Maybe!) so I'll be waiting for a lower interest rate deal to come up before I purchase mine. Anyways my opinion is that Toyota Canada is trying to target more people who don't own a Prius with the lower prices and great package option for the base model.

For a country that has long winter nights (maybe except southern Ontario), I was surprised it wasn't more widely offered. I'm glad to see that Bi-LEDs are standard (but only because it's standard in all countries). They illuminate a dark road (no street lights) very well.

Yup. Only the Technology model with the Advanced package gets a tire repair kit and a larger trunk.

Wow, Honda charges less for Freight/PDI then. The initial MSRP difference is ~$1,500 before fees and taxes. Toyota now charges documentation fee. It used to be included up to about a few years ago. I was surprised when they mention that when we purchased the car. Just a heads up.

I agree. The 2016 Prius pricing is quite aggressive. I certainly hope to see more people in a Prius because it's a nice car to drive and to own, not just simply because it's a fuel efficient car. TCI will need an aggressive campaign to get people into the car because the general public will just assume "oh well gas prices are down, why should I buy a hybrid?". But once they drive it, it'll at least open their minds "hey, this actually isn't bad to drive".

I'm liking the quicker steering ratio. I'm estimating it at 2.5 turns lock-to-lock. @Mendel Leisk , I think that's similar to yours? (2.75 lock-to-lock IIRC for the Gen 3 Touring)

Well, Mayfield Toyota in Edmonton actually HAS a GIV Prius in stock - I had a chance today to look it over. Salesman says it's the only one in Edmonton, and you can take that to the bank as we all know they are always right and never lie. ;)

It's a White Base model (in the US a model 2 - there is no model 2 ECO in Canada). It's the only model we will see for the time being in Edmonton. Looks like all three models in Canada have a spare tyre, though the Technology package has an optional "tyre repair kit" and that may be a spare delete thing, as they also say the cargo capacity is different with that kit added.

The Base model has the NiMh battery, the other two models (Technology and Touring) have the LiIon battery per the brochure.
So I sat in it, noting the console is black (not white with stuck-on black cover). The "panel" the shifter is in is white, but the steering column cover is black and all the dash is black as well.

Kind of bare regarding gizmos. Nice colour display, which lit up when I opened the door, even though the car was off.
Salesman asks "what do you think, nice eh" (he's Canadian, right?).
I have nothing against the design. I think it looks just fine, not "hideous" as some wags shriek.
I am not impressed with the lack of storage space, but I guess it can save fuel - it won't be loaded up with lots of extraneous "bits" we never use. Like Pearl S carries. ;)

I looked under the hood, noting the 12V battery there (different than the GII and GIII one). Boost point is gone, as the battery is there so you boost on that. Salesman didn't know the engine is redone and 40% efficient. What a surprise.

I also had a look at the independent rear suspension. It looks heavy, but the car is actually slightly lighter than the GIII.
All models in Canada get the LED headlamps, as stated before. Nice until they fail. Will we see a fiasco like the HID headlamps of the past?

I think I'll pass for now. Pearl S is at 25,000 km and four years old. Still good for quite some time. I'll be driving an "obsolete car" for a while. :)

It's too bad they couldn't offer the base Technology or at least the Touring model outside of the Van/Tor/Mtl. I guess it's also Li-Ion (and it's based on the equivalent Three in the U.S.). The base car doesn't have the upgraded door trim or any of the tech that makes the Prius worth the upgrade over the Gen 3. I suppose you could try an import one but I don't know what kind of legal papers you have to sign to own & operate one of those outside of the 3 aforementioned metropolitan areas.

Oh, I can get any Prius I want. Local dealer tells me they just do a "dealer swap". In fact, Pearl S came from Courtney B.C., purchased in Wetaskiwin AB. But without even being able to see one, why Toyota Canada, would I -want- one? I'm still guessing the limited model availability is due to limited supply for now. Perhaps this "problem" will fix itself soon. But I still have a very nice car (Pearl S) and don't need the new one for quite a while.

Oh, and there are a lot of people smoking something around here. I'm sure I could go see the high end Prius at the car show. $15 for parking and $15 for admission. Yeah, right! To see cars fighting heavy crowds, that I can eventually see for free without anyone else bothering me in their showroom.
