Even after 200K+ miles. Fantastic customer care and a fantastic dealer (Northwest Arkansas Toyota). That's the good news. Now some of my steering wheel buttons do not work, specifically those on the right side of the wheel. This is a package 6 car so I am losing lots of functionality, at least on the wheel. The buttons elsewhere are working fine.

My question is: could the display replacement have caused this? All was fine before. This dealership is over 60 miles from my home and on the way back in a rainstorm I wanted the rear defrost and it would not come on unless I used the buttons surrounding the MFD.

Anyone with an electrical schematic see a connection?

Combination Meter (spedometer, odometer, gear indicator) was a warranty enhancement. Combination Meter Warranty Enhancement | PriusChat

Search first then post. A search for "steering wheel button" would have revealed many posts with your same loss of functionality.

You need the steering wheel clockspring replaced. Immitation replacements are available on eBay, but the quality is poor. Questions have been raised about the part being able to properly deploy the air bag when required due to the connector.

Do an Internet search for "Toyota Parts (your city)," to find a Toyota Dealer who sells parts online; you will have to go through some links before find one. This will be the cheapest source of genuine OEM Toyota parts vs going to your local dealer, unless they are willing to match the online price.

Uh, thanks, I guess. I had searched and could not find any discussion regarding my specific question. Lots of general button failure discussion but nothing about any relationship between the speedometer display being replaced and my newly non-functional buttons. I was hoping someone was familiar enough with the schematics to provide an answer.

Besides, who appointed you chief scolder? And who are you? And why was my thread moved and to where?

It was a coincidence. Combo meter (Spedometer/Odometer/Gear indicator) being replaced did not introduce the steering wheel buttons being non-functional. All Gen2s kept long enough will likely experience a failed clockspring, and the resulting non-functioning steering wheel buttons.

You don't believe me. Get in your car and see for yourself.
Make the car "Ready." Assuming the steering wheel is in the straight ahead position, turn the wheel in small increments (say 45degree increment). Pause. Press the steering wheel buttons to see if functionality has returned. If no, repeat the small increment advance and button test. There will be a position at which the steering wheel buttons work again. Only problem is you can't drive indefinetly at this wheel position. When the steering wheel is returned to the normal, straight ahead position, the steering wheel button functionality will be lost.

If you seek "professionalism," there are business and tradespeople that provide that, for a fee. You seek something for free from the Interent.

I am (insert adjective/noun of your choice), to you. Despite this, we will continue to live our lives happily ever after, independent of one another.

I do not know where you initially posted. It is likely a moderator moved it to the forum they deemed appropriate based on your vehicle profile (2007 Prius) and your stated problem.

Yes the combo meter has 9 year special warranty...so we'd like to know if it was over 9 years from orig purchase that means you got some decent treatment. Mine has lived past 9 years so hopefully it keeps going

Thanks, I tried the described test and it worked as predicted. I shall now resolve thru the skilled hands of others. Professional or not, you have been helpful and I appreciate that.
