Hello Prius people. Just wanted to check in. Also wanted to let people know my early troubles with the Prius.

    1st -- Radio issues
Radio crapped out during the first month. Apparently a common issue with the touch screen. Toyota replaced this with no issues. Actually took it to LA and ended up with intermittent radio for half the trip as well as the whole loooooooong ride back to San Jose.

Now -- about 6 months old and a little over 15K miles later.
Right tail light is out and traction control warning on heads up display is illuminated as well as the ABS warning.
E-Brake notification is on and does not turn off when E-Brake is released.

This is actually the wife's Prius and she loves driving it especially since it's less time and money at the gas station. But it looks like it will be a little time consuming at the service station. Plus I'm worried something critical might fail when she is actually driving it with the kids in tow.

Anyone else having this much issues so soon after ownership? Any helpful advice?

    Regards,

Sorry to hear of your troubles. FWIW, our 2012 v Five has been trouble-free, albeit with only 30,000 miles.

Has a reputation for reliability enough so that it is a common taxi cab vehicle in numerous cities with lots over 200k miles.

Mine totally reliable in just under 30k miles and 4 years.

Not that either of those helps you with your problems, just that yours are unusual.

I suspect a sensor has been affected by something. Maybe running over something in the road. The diagnostic computer will know.

The TRAC (ABS) with the (!) light is almost definitely a wheel sensor that has gone bad. For some reason all of the Toyota's I've owned have had one or more of these fail due to wire corrosion, because the wires are left exposed on the connector plug. Unfortunately it's about a $150-$200 repair to replace one of these. However, you can still drive it but you won't have traction control or ABS... which could be an issue if you value those sort of systems at all (I drove my Yaris around with no ABS for years to no ill effect).
