I am in the 18-21 mile range with good hybrid mpg, would caution those expecting much more than 21 ev.
All online mags I have seen so far, rumor 8Kwh/50 km,
    Prius 1 plug-in 4.4 kwh/11 miles EPA, JC08 rated 26.4 km in Japan
    Prius 2 plug-in 8.0 kwh/21 miles EPA?, JC08 rated 50 km in Japan

    JC08's 26.4 km is 11 miles, then 50 km is 21 miles,
    or 75% usable of 4.4 Kwh/11 miles, 75% of 8 KWh at 3.5 miles/Kwh is 21 miles!

So, There you have it! you've been warned! :D

My round-trip to and from work is 23 miles, and it's a 700 foot vertical ascent, often in the winter with the heat on. I'd like to be able to make that trip without charging at work. I average about 47MPG in the winter and 56MPG in the summer on that trip in my 2004.

remember these are just rumors. IMHO the phv back end (rumor) looks better than the normal liftback.

Is there any evidence that this is going to be implemented in the PIP2 ? I mean that would be great but the only info I've seen on that technology is similar to what is being said in the article yo'uve linked, it is being tested as prototype.

I went back and looked at the original leak of 4th gen Prius info at a Taiwanese auto website last June. This "new" report just seems to be repackaging that old data from 9 months ago. The reported exterior design turned out to be very accurate but the specification numbers for motor sizes, HP, engine efficiency etc. did not quite line up with Toyota's eventual official numbers for the HEV, at least.

    Here's the original:

Taillights have a passing resemblance to another plug-in hybrid - McLaren P1.

Cool car but I was hoping for more than 22 miles EV range...Chevy figured it out.

Come on Toyota! If only 22 mile range it better be way cheaper than the Volt.
