    Hello all.

I just purchased my first Toyota, my first Hybrid, and my first EV all in one shot, with my new-to-me 2013 Prius Plug-In.

I live in Michigan, and PlugIn Prius are rare in this area. PiP was not available in MI. But I bought it used from someone who moved from NYC. Very reasonable price too!! What I paid for this vehicle, is very close to the Corolla of similar mile/year. (It's a lot of car for the money)

It's been only a week, but I'm enjoying the vehicle very much. This car is absolutely absurd at the pump!! I can go 500 miles with $15!!! Yes gas is fairly cheap - it's $2/gal around here, but still...

I do a lot of driving (I put about 22,000 miles a year) and I estimate that I would save about $800/yr in gas money over a normal IC vehicle like Camry or Accord.

I pay about 7c / KWh for electricity for my house 24/7, so l'll still save money by Plugging it at home. Until the gas price goes below $1.40, I'll plug in as much as I can. Currently this is my commuter car (20 miles each way) but if my stay-home wife (who only drives 10 miles, 2-3 times a day) takes this Prius... she technically can go gasoline-free for a whole month!!!

Very interesting car. Very different car. Gone are the $5/gal days (and we may not see those for a long time) so it has lost some of its appeal, but it is nevertheless very cool car.

Thanks for all your advise, in advance.

    Congrats on your new PIP!

We, in Cali, pay almost $3.00 per gallon of gas at the moment.

As for electricity, we pay $0.20 per kWh.

I had my PIP for almost 4 months now and have not been to a gas station yet except for "refreshing" old fuel in the tank. Now, I am trying to burn off the old fuel.

I have found out that fuel can go stale (if it has been sitting in your tank too long) and start to varnish and gum internal components.

congrats and welcome! fear not the stale fuel scenario, your pip will run the engine every 124 miles to prevent that from happening, even if you don't. all the best!(y)
