    Hi there

I'm experiencing a rattle and noise in my gen 3. The most annoying rattle comes from beneath the center display. The noises come from the center console and the armrests in the doors when resting my knees against them. I would like to solve them

I was looking for a good guide to open the center console to see if I can solve the noises from there, because I noticed that not all the dashboard parts are attached very well.

So can someone point me to a good guide for opening this part and maybe the part beneath the center display and the door armrests to fix this issues?

    Thanks Jacob

Watch this backup camera video. Toward the end it shows how to take apart the center console to pull the radio out. You start by opening the upper glove box and prying up the plastic shroud.

Do you have a gen 3? You posted in gen 3 area. Do you have more than one car , because it shows you have gen 2 2009.

Not completely flippant, I've found just ignoring rattles for a while, they sometimes work themselves out. Whatever is chaffing wears a way a little more, quietens down.

I think the OP is talking about a squeak rather than a rattle. A rattle is caused by vibrations. A leg resting on a panel would cause a squeak. Unless his legs vibrate.

In the case of the Prius, a lot of the panels and materials are thin. So they flex. Things that flex tend to squeak. You can remove panels and install door foam (thin strips) on certain parts that contact eachother when mounted. I've done this on other cars with success.

I've been squeak/rattle hunting for a while now. Pain in the nice person.

Great username, btw. Fun to find random E46 folks around the interwebz :)

I've noticed the drivers window switch panel area squeak when my leg is against it. When I upgrade my speakers I'm going to apply some vinyl sound proof film and padding to get rid of that hollow plastic sound. I've seen on other cars where the OEM uses a really thin fabric in between two plastic pieces so I'm going to give that a shot.
