I am driving a 2011 Prius and getting 19 mpg. Anyone have any idea why this is happening?

welcome, it's probably the method you're using to measure your mpg's. more than likely, you're getting 40-50 mpg.

First time poster from Michigan who has never returned, it could just be a paid GM employee spreading FUD, badly.

Perhaps you can help me, I've got an MPG problem with this tank:
Perhaps we can just average them and get:

    (19+91.8)/2 = 55.4 MPG

    So we're both doing OK.

If numerous Japanese commuters could do it -- one even exceeded 3000 km on a single tank -- and several other PC members could exceed 100 mpg for extended distances, I don't see why Bob would have to photochop it.

Look also at the displayed average speed. The combination of MPG vs speed is quite consistent with the known Prius performance charts.

His mpg is insane! I can understand for a short distance or downhill but over 90 mpg for a distance of 1000 mi is just insane. I am sure Bob did not photoshop it, I was just kidding :) I would love to know the secret though!

No secret, other than wasting a considerable amount of time for a stunt to prove that it is possible. He described it back when he did it. I just don't remember the thread.

For another answer, look at the displayed average speed, then look up that speed on his MPG vs Speed chart:

Wow, that was helpful. Those test drives were done over a shorter distance. However, achieving 1000 mile with more than 90 mpg is unbelievable.

I occasionally get 19mpg...when I drive 0.6 miles to lunch (if I wasn't dressed up for work I'd probably walk) including a pretty steep uphill and a tricky left turn across traffic I usually have to punch it for. It's always so depressing to see that trip and the return trip take a toll on my trip mpg

Long distances don't hurt a bit, at least from the car's perspective. Only the driver suffers from it, both at staying awake and at keeping focused on the goal.

If this impresses you, then how about 118 MPG over 3000 kilometers? See the listing in this post: Mileage?!!! | PriusChat

I'll bet the OP, if they ever return, was mistaking the average speed indication for mpg.

Wow! You have patience! I will set my goal at 70 mpg with some driving techniques. So far, I drove it like a regular car without understanding how the hybrid system works. This forum (and your mpg chart) is certainly helping me to become a true prius driver.
