My girlfriend is looking to purchase a new car in the next month or so.
We have been looking mainly at hatchbacks and this of course led us down the Prius route (i may have influenced her a bit as well...) but it's nearly impossible to find Gen 3's around here now, and seeing as how she doesn't like the ZVW40 - we went looking at the C.

The dealer we visited showed us the few 2015s they had left and explained us all the great discounts and financing offers available currently but for some reason was reallllly pushing the Scion iM on us. If the iM had cost more or something I'd get it - they are trying to make a better sale, totally understandable. But that wasn't the case, it was quite a bit less actually. Guy just wouldn't let it go. We test drove both and she wasn't really into the whole youth culture performance thing Scion was going for - but the dude was like reallllly giving us the hard sell on it.

We ended up leaving to think on it - would have done so anyway. But it was just weird to me how into selling us the iM that guy was. Must have been haunted or something.

Regardless, we are still in the market for a 2015 but they are seemingly hard to find...

That's what I said but he claimed they are still making 4 models (including the iM) under the Toyota badge from 2017 forward.

They need to sell all the Scion models soon, before the new names models are available.

Since they have discontinued many models, perhaps the sales person is set to receive a higher commission/bonus if he sells more Scion models?

Although the Scion is less expensive, the mark up may be higher from factory, or perhaps it is a local in-house incentive at that dealership where salespeople who sell more of a certain model will receive a bonus.

This is the only logic I can come up with :) unless the salesperson truly has a deep seeded love for the Scion IM, there must be something in it for him to push so hard.

Also, good luck on your hunt for a 3!

Hi swamp, that car is very popular here in europe, but is named differently. Is actually a better choice than the "c" and does not cost much more.. But looks suited mainly for a boy rather than for a Girl. I can understand the pressure, you can get a car very similar to a Lexus ct200h with a price similar to a "c"..

Huh, I hadn't realized how similar to the ct it is...
Still, if she doesn't like it as much as the c then she doesn't like it as much as the c.
It's her car - I'm just here to help her find what she wants.

Well it all depends on what you consider better. They are both Toyota's so you know they are well made. But if you want 55 mpg, the C wins!

the dealer probably has an oversupply of the scion, or the one he wants to sell you has been on the lot for a long time and is costing them money. I would buy the car you want, not the car the salesman wants you to buy. The dealer's job is to move inventory. They are probably overstocked.

How is the search going? have any other prospective vehicles entered the mix yet?

She has more or less narrowed her options down the the 2016 Honda Fit EX or the 2015 Prius C Three.
Said she likes the Fit a lot but had a "Say Yes to the Dress" style emotional connection to the C, and the only question becomes what color she wants. Sort of flip flopping between Blizzard Pearl and Tangerine Splash Pearl.

There are some special financing offers through the 4th so I'm trying to get her to decide by then.

Good stuff. I am going to be going through a similar thing with my gf in the next few months and I have also been pushing the Prius C hard too.

Good luck and keep us posted with the final decision!

Honda has moved Fit production back to Japan, so the Fit will be better with less problems, look for a Japanese made one.

I've got a C2 and my wife likes it. But w probably could have purchased a Fit for $2-3K less similarly equiped. So the poorer mileage 935-40 mpg) cost for gas would probably even out the cost over the time the car is owned.
