It was the hard one from the PriusChat store. Looks like chrome, but described as stainless steel. Plasti-dipped four coats - Primer - Black - Black - Glossifier. Pull off the double stick protective tape and set in place.

Finally today the temperature went up to 67F so I could mount my bumper protector. The instructions say not to mount it under 60F because the tape will not stick on properly. I left it chrome because that seemed fine on a blue car and because I was lazy. Less effort than Plastidipping.

Kevin, what's this "plastidip" stuff I keep hearing about. Similar to spray paint? Where do you get it, and what type of materials can you apply it to? (Metal of course.)

I also bought the rear bumper protector from the Prius Chat Shop. The chrome/stainless finish looks pretty good. And that tape is strong! I couldn't move it once it contacted the bumper. image.jpg

Vinyl spray paint. Sticks to almost anything. I buy it online. A rainbow of colors and finishes

I think plasti-dip started out as liquid, for applications such as plasticizing metal tool handles. It's flexible, can be pealed off, so reversible.

Ok, thanks guys. (I added another pic of the "stock" bumper protector.) I wish I could find a good, custom fit sunshade to go in the windshield. My old Camry one fits pretty good, but is about 3" too short. That, and still looking for those darn mudguards.

On the white car, the black looks better than the chrome, it blends with the lower window and the black bottom. On my red car, I think the chrome works well (it blends with the Prius and Hybrid tags.

Yeah. I have that black and white theme going.

My 2 cents: I'd leave it chrome, or brushed stainless.

My dealer had a new Gen4 Prius that was "blacked out." All the emblems and badges, and hubcaps. Even the tail lights... Why do the lights? I don't think that's legal. But either is the "Limo black" tint they applied. Can you see out the windows at night???

    Your car looks nice, Kevin.

    Merged.

Kevin, you're in Whittier? I'm looking for a good tint shop. Would you mind sharing the name of the place you went to? Cross streets? I just want a good medium tint, of good quality. I inquired at a couple shops in my area, but they can't tell me if it's 3m, or if it has UV protection, or whatever. $175 to do a Prius.

Xtreme Tint. Lambert and Painter. I got the top of the line 3M with lifetime guarantee. They will give you three choices when you get there. They have been in business for years in the same spot.
    Merged...
I have had at least a half dozen vehicles done there and never had a complaint. (In Whittier)

    Most likely it's VHB tape:
    3M™ VHB™ Tape
There's probably something in there about removing it if you need to.
