I just bought a 2013 (this would be my 5th Prius). I noticed the back up camera on the screen just shows video and doesn't show the blue/red line grid.

    My question is
    Is this normal?
(All my Priis have been package 5 and this one is a package 3)

If not how do I return the backup guidance lines back to the screen?

I can't remember any Gen3 with them unless it was aftermarket

Both my 2013 v (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon) wagons had it, I thought my 2010 had it.

So I guess its normal not to have them

I know the aftermarket units have a wire you clip to DISABLE the grid appearing on the screen. You could inquire at Toyota if that wire is present and "clipped" on the Prius model. In theory, you could then locate the clipped wire and reconnect it.

Can't believe Toyota cheaped out on grid lines. Very disappointed

& this is why I said what I said......before back up cams, u had to look behind u.l & now people have gotten lazy & just look at the camera instead of looking in the mirrors & physically turning around.

    I've driven a v wagon w/the lines....I didn't think they helped......too each their ow but I guess I'm just old school

There's two basic reasons to have them.

    1. Many back up cameras use a very low mm focal length which produces a "fish eye" view. It's great for expanding your lateral vision, but it distorts your perspective. The grid is intended to give you a sense of what your "safe" zone is.

    2. Maybe they feel the Prius using the huge LCD screen eliminates the need for the grid, but in many other vehicles, the back up display is integrated into the rear view mirror, and it's very small to look at. The grid makes it easier to judge the "safe" zone on such a small display.

None of this is a substitute for checking your blind spots and mirrors, but a part of why I installed an aftermarket camera on my Prius Two was that in many parking lots, I couldn't see oncoming cars until I was already halfway backed out, and a lot of people don't care to slow down in parking lots.

I don't have grid lines either on my 2013 Prius. Called Toyota Canada and they say if you don't have them already, there's no way you can add them (not an option in settings).:(
