I want a rear window cam that records even after car is shut off!

    My rear hatch window was smashed the other night. Just wondering if there is a dashcam made for situations where it's usually charging if the ignition is on, but if it's off, it runs on battery power so that it's recording for hours after you turn off the car. I want to have that for the hatch or on the dash, but facing the rear.

    The battery in dashcams is pathetically small and will not record anywhere near long enough to be used for parking mode. You'd have to keep it powered off the 12v in the car, but use a device that monitors battery level and if it drops too low it'll cut off power to the cam. These devices can also be set with timers for shutoff after X amount of time.     Simple enough to hardwire the cam to an always-on circuit in the car. In addition to concern about draining your Prii's 12v battery, make sure you have a cam that will work with a big enough flash card (say 64gb +) and good night performance.

    If you have some electrical knowledge! Wire a agm motorcycle battery parralel to the main battery connecting a relay wire to a 12v trigger on this will connect and disconnect the main battery to the motorcycle battery w key on/off to recharge and disconnect. Also you can run a 10-15 watt solar panel laying on the inside back hatch with a regulator to add charge during the daylight. Some of the cam has wifi features but only work within the range of connected networks.
