    "Driving Television" has done their review and test drive of the G4. Go to "drivingtelevision.com" to find it.

    They liked it. Handles "much better", is "larger", "quieter", etc. "Styling is a personal thing, if you like it great, if not...".

    They tested a "hypersonic red" one! Looks nice in HD (I watch broadcast "off air" so I get -true- HD rather than the chinsey cable or sat. bandwidth). ;)

    Somebody must have beating the car pretty hard, because the economy and mileage shown at the 1 minute mark translates to 644 miles and 43.5 US MPG.

    Press cars, demo cars, are usually "ON" while sales reps, reviewers go over instrumentation, head unit functions, etc...

    Something like that, quite a good idea for those looking for a car, any car.
    With all of my grousing about the new design, when I saw it driving in the lot, then took it out, most of that vanished. I didn't hate the exterior, although I still don't like the rear end.

    I find it far more hospitable inside, much cleaner, neater, less flamboyant and more professional. I also felt claustrophobic in the Gen 3, but not the new one. The Gen 4 is a very nice car inside, not pretending to be something weird, just because.

    My take is Prius owners make a bit much of things. Cargo room. As an owner of many hatchbacks over the decades, perhaps that tempers my excitement a bit. The Gen 4 has decent room for a car this size, and makes good use of it. In the past, I've owned sporty hatchbacks that were both fun to drive, and got great gas mileage.

    The Gen4 Prius is a decent drive, and a nice place to be inside. It now feels more carlike and far less toylike. The steering is better, handling and ride, very nice seats, a great platform to build upon and get better. The Gen 3, IMO, was a dead end.

    Now Toyota has a platform, as well as a design model, from which to branch out.

    This is really the bottom line - it's quite a nice car, improved in key aspects while improving upon its already unmatched fuel economy. The interior is attractive, functional, and non-weird (especially in the context of today's sensory overload consoles). While I never minded operating an efficient transportation appliance, it's definitely more satisfying to drive a nice car.

    They're in the UK, and I'm not sure what's happening over there. In the U.S., the cars with the bum software cannot be sold and old ones have to be fixed, but the situation might be different across the pond.

    Reading the article, they mention the hit to the VW diesels' collective reputation, but give no indication whether the model under review has one of the affected engines and/or whether its software has been corrected to run cleaner. I'd think any review involving VW diesels needs to address those issues for the story to be meaningful. The Prius wins in this case anyway.

    Prius wins against new Passat in Autoexpress (German owned).
    Volkswagen Passat vs Toyota Prius | Auto Express

    First win against Golf and then against Passat, all in magazine traditionally very biased towards German vehicles (owned by Autobild). Is end of the world coming? :)

    Amusing that the VW, which lost in the comparison, is placed closer to the camera than the Prius, which won. Somebody's residual bias is showing?

    Over the years including the notorious "Portland-to-Portland" stunt by "GreenHuman" (i.e., green as in easily fooled!), we have seen USA diesels consistently fail when comparing real-world to real-world (aka., fuelly or the EPA user posts.) Yet USA auto reporters and Wards in particular, have tried to sell the diesel advantages in spite of reality.

    It really begins to beg the question of why are auto reviewers so willing to 'shade' the truth.

    Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?!?!? A Prius wins against a German saloon?!?


    A European magazine stating that a Prius is good to drive?? Well done Toyota!

    It definitely feels flatter around corners but it's so much more comfortable and doesn't hop around over uneven surfaces (expansion joints or railway crossings) like the Gen 2 or 3 do.

    German Autobild performs a full frontal attack on the new Prius with a reported fuel economy of 45MPG.
    They claims you are better off with a "VW Golf TSI" or "Opel Astra Diesel" as they get "similar fuel economy". This is disregarding that their own test of the TSI shows significantly worse fuel economy, and the other car is a diesel!

    Reminds me when Autocar or Whatcar tested IS300h and cited a "poor fuel economy" as negative point, then in NEXT issue, they tested bunch of premium saloons (A4, 3, C) with small diesels (eco models) and crowned IS300h as having best real life economy.

    Inside and out. We had a rental Passat in Florida a couple of years ago I think it was. Most boring car ever. It had a since phased out ice engine, loud but no performance, 25-28 mpg average is what we saw. Quiet and comfortable, but by no means any indication that it was a European sedan, they had pretty much stripped that right out of it. Basically, that Passat felt like a 2003 Chevy.
