My 2010 prius III, not Three, with 161K miles used very little oil between changes (10,000 mi). Always use Mobile 1 0w-20. Before last oil change it used 4 qts. I took it to the dealer to resolve problem. They could find no evidence of leaks. Changed spark plugs and found no evidence of burning oil. I asked about PCV and dealer said never had to replace one. Anyway, I took it home and changed oil and have less that 1k miles and have used about a qt of oil. Any suggestions?

I put 4 qts in between oil change, then changed the oil and now have less than 1k miles and have used a qt of oil.

You're still less than what Toyota mentions in the Owners Manual, 1.1 quarts per 600 miles. And then, what does it say: "contact" your Toyota dealer. No mention of standing behind their product.

My point is that the car went over 160K without using any notable amounts of oil. Something must have changed. Any ideas what?

Quite a few similar reports here: nothing or minimum oil consumption, then somewhere past 100,000 miles, bam. Nothing conclusive, stuck piston rings mentioned.

at 160k, why not have a mech throw in a low mile salvage engine?

And replace the EGR module, while the engine's out? It's likely on the verge of totally clogged. Actually could that be causing oil consumption somehow??

How exactly did you arrive at this assumption?

Several owners here, with miles over 100,000, have reported clogged EGR.
