So I took my '04 down from Vancouver to California over the last 3 days (2300km), and started out doing the Prius-count during the trip. Went fairly well all through Washington State and Oregon along the coast-highway (12 to the bottom of Oregon - 2 classics and the rest 04s).

Then I hit San Francisco... And gave up.

They were everywhere! I lost count after about 20 or so (traffic was pretty heavy though, and I had to keep my eyes in front of me, rather than Prius-spotting).

Driving in LA today as well, I saw at least a half-dozen in 3 hours. This is a good sign! :)

On the subject of high-speed stability, mine was handling just fine. Tires at 42/40 and it was no problem controlling at cruising speeds (55-70mph). The only area that was a little touchy was coming out of Oakland last night and driving south - it was VERY windy, almost seemed like the trees were being pushed over flat with the wind. But it still felt like the Prius was under control and I never felt like it was getting dangerous.

Once you get off the west coast into the mid-west, the numbers would probably drop significantly. We've got most of them here in CA :-P

There are 3 in my neighborhood, gonna be 4 when I get mine! But I live in San Francisco where they're getting to be about as common as any other car.

    WV Prius sightings

Considering that WV SEEMS to be the place to score a quick purchase, is it odd that I have seen a total of TWO Prii in the last 4 months here? Perhaps they are mostly going to out of state buyers? I do not know, but they sure aren't highly visible in this area...

hey Dave the white 2k4 was back in the parking lot and the Silver 2k4 was back at the AirCare station on Waybuourne Drive and the Classic was a Creo on Annacis Island, not including our 2 Prius.

    I have the opposite problem

I am constantly scanning for other Prii but have only seen a handful. I fall into htmlspnnrs midwest equation. I have yet to see another Prius Owner but I have seen a couple on the road. But I suspect the allocation fairy is moving toward the east so maybe that will change.

    Peace,

    Fr. Bill

The number of Prii I see in any given week is directly related to the number of miles I drive. I find that for every hundred I spot at least one 04, and two or three Classics. Just gotta drive a lot to find a lot ;)

Haven't seen one in the wild yet. One of my co-workers saw three already (near Amsterdam).

In the Hilton Head area, I have seen one Prius in the wild, a classic. It was parked at the DMV when I went to register my new Black #7.

    Re: WV Prius sightings

In my opinion, no, it isn't odd. Toyota's distribution system forces everyone else (except Californians) to travel to WV to get their Prii. If not for WV, there probably wouldn't be any in the midwest or northeast.

I think most of the Prii in WV are going to the DC area (or at least it seems that way, based on the density of Prii here). WV is also pretty close to NY, Philly and Baltimore, 3 more major cities.

Well, I have had my Prius for about 1 month now. I can count on one hand, the number of prius's I have seen. I have close to 2500 miles on the car to date. So I have been on the road quite a bit.

When you take into account production numbers, 04's are still pretty rare, I would guess there is probably less than 30K on the roads throughout the U.S.

Unless you live in a highly populated area I doubt you will see a lot in the wild.

I have had my '04 for a week now, ordered it in January I have only seen 2 on the road here in NJ since January.

This car is a definate head turner. Walked out of work the other night and had 5 people standing around the car gazing.

They are all over the place. Just within 2 blocks of my house there are 3 classics and 3 '04s. I probably see 4-5 a day just driving around. But remember this is the SF Bay Area - eco-concious from way back and into electrics and hybrids in a big way.

I think I had seen three Prius on my way home from work since I got my car last February. Today I saw three: A seaside, a salsa, and a brand new black one. Pretty cool.

I have certainly seen more Prius on the west side of Los Angeles than I do in the Valley.

It's touch and go here in NC. A couple weeks back I saw one two days in a row, then nothing. That has been the pattern for me more or less. One every two to three weeks.

I'll be going to CA (San Jose) in a couple of weeks, so it will be wonderful to see all the varieties in the wild out there. I've yet to see a Tideland Pearl Seaside Pearl (the color I hope to get) for example.

I saw one in Albuquerque last week. I was there for 3 1/2 days. I've only seen one here in Fargo, not counting my own and the one I test drove.

BTW, Albuquerque calls itself the balloon capital of the world. I got out just as the annual balloon festival was starting.

When and where did you see the Salsa Red? Could have been mine.

Well, it was not me. Plus, I guess mine, at exactly two weeks, still qualifies as new. I do not have license plates, as of yet.

Edit: What was I thinking last night? It's been three weeks. The time flies when you are having fun.
